"Fresh off the brutal trails of Utah, Rose and Chad head for the high country of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. Rose climbs onto the back of the Africa Twin for a 2-up run across the iconic Alpine Loop, tackling Engineer and Cinnamon Pass.

The ride continues north along the Million Dollar Highway, over the Continental Divide, through the "Billionaires’ Playground" of Aspen, and finally onto the unforgettable Colorado River Road."

Just to set the record straight: our last episode generated a lot of comments, many of which focused on our route selection. Some even suggested I don’t know how to read a map. (For context, I’ve been navigating with paper maps for four decades.)

To clarify, I’ve included several shots of the Butler Map in question, along with screenshots of a comment from someone who personally rescued two people stranded at the exact same location–who were similarly misled by this map.

The map, which coincidentally features a Harley Softail on the cover, highlights a “recommended dirt road” leaving Highway 126 in Utah, running through Onion Creek to John Brown Canyon, and continuing all the way to Gateway, Colorado.

What the map does not indicate is that there are technical 4WD trails between these points, and that Onion Creek and John Brown Canyon do not actually intersect.

If others interpret the map differently, I’m genuinely open to hearing how.

"Arriving in Moab, Rose and Chad take a relaxed 2up ride through the towering sandstone formations of Arches National Park, then head out to test Rose’s off-road skills on Potash Road and the iconic Shafer Switchbacks. With plans to continue deeper into Canyonlands via the White Rim Trail shelved, they opt instead for a supposed “scenic and easy” dirt backroad into Colorado - Onion Creek.

That plan quickly unravels when the route turns into a rocky jeep trail that proves more challenging than expected, forcing the pair to reassess their exit strategy."
