What is natural gas transport? Natural gas utilities in Missouri have given customers who use a large amount of natural gas the option of choosing where to purchase the natural gas. This option is called transport services. The amount of natural gas used determines whether a customer is able to move into transport and save money on their natural gas.
Does the gas utility care if I don’t buy the gas from them? No. In Missouri, natural gas utilities purchase gas from suppliers, then pass along the gas to the end customer and charge for the delivery of the gas as well as the purchased price. The natural gas earns income from the delivery services, not by marking up the natural gas commodity.
How can transport save me money? By selecting a natural gas supplier, you can lock in your nat-
ural gas supply for the next year, up front, before the winter draw down begins. Natural gas companies (the companies that mine the gas and store it) look for firm contracts to use their gas, and are willing to lock in pricing at a savings to the customer.
How can I find out if I am eligible for transport and how much I could save? Simply provide us with a copy of your last utility bill and permission to view your usage history and we will provide a potential savings comparison that looks at all costs of transport compared to the rate your are paying now.
Is this deregulation? No. Natural gas utilities in Missouri are allowed specific rights and terms under their Public Service Commission approved tariffs. Deregulation is not approved in Missouri at this time. Steve Calcagno
