Mary Davis is 5️⃣ today, a whole hand 🤚🏻! She is so incredibly kind, tender, hilarious, spunky, loving, and truly one of a kind! We spent the day with our friends at the Hope Clinic for her immunotherapy infusion. More great news to report!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Mary Davis’ scans were clear!!! The spot in her right lung is still there but did not show up on PET which is super good news!! She tolerated round #3 of immunotherapy well and we are back home from Cincinnati!! She is feeling GREAT and we could not be more grateful for the good news!! Her team in Cincinnati is just thrilled with her response and her care will be transferred back to Mobile so she will have her infusions and scans here at USAC&W! ☺️

Mary Davis will be starting kindergarten in the fall (😰😭)!! So, here’s to a fun filled summer with lots of special sister time! 🧜‍♀️🏖️ ☀️ 😎 🏊

4/3: Mary Davis had scans Monday and Tuesday. As always she was our big, brave girl - she was able to do the chest Ct and her PET scan without sedation!!! We met with her oncologist yesterday to review the results and determine the plan for treatment… He was super excited that her right upper lobe nodule is smaller and less dense!! HALLELUJAH!!!! He has arranged for the first dose of the new immunotherapy tomorrow, she will be admitted to the hospital to monitor her closely. Please, please pray with us that Mary Davis can tolerate this new medication and that it’s effective against the cancer! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

3/26: Well things did not go as planned at Mary Davis’ second cycle of immunotherapy on 3/12. She developed a severe reaction during the infusion and had to be admitted overnight for monitoring. Because of this reaction she is no longer enrolled in the clinical trial. She recovered quickly and discharged from the hospital the next morning. We were allowed to come home while the team deliberates and develops a new treatment plan. We will return to Cincinnati on 3/30 for scans and appointments with her Oncologist. Our hope is that we will roll right into the new treatment plan but as of now we do not know how long we will be in Cincinnati this trip.

Specific prayer requests:
-new scans (CT/MRI/PET) are stable or improved
-discernment for Mary Davis’ clinical team in all their decisions
- Mary Davis is able to tolerate the new plan and it is effective
-each of our girls is granted a devine understanding of all of this, may they each know they are loved and special and the decisions we face are not at all “choices”
-and of course, safe travels

For now, enjoy some photos of our sunshine girl soaking up these past two weeks at home with family and friends. 🌈 ☀️ Mary Davis was invited to a University of South Alabama football practice where she met the head coach (Major Applewhite) and several football players. She was also invited to throw the first pitch at a University of Mobile softball game 🥎 and had an absolute blast! (See videos in comments) We also enjoyed an early Easter celebration with family. We saw Mary Davis’ cousins last high school play and so much more! We’ve been trying our best to make the most of our time at home especially with her big sister, Amelia! 🩷🩷🩷

3/8/25: Mary Davis’ port, ‘new buddy’, was placed on 2/18 and she received the first cycle of immunotherapy! 🙌🏼 She’s had weekly follow ups and had been doing fantastic. However, this past Tuesday she suddenly developed a whole body rash then spiked a fever so away to the hospital we went. Thankfully, she quickly improved and was discharged yesterday. Her rash and fever are both gone and she is feeling so much better!! She could not be happier to be back at the ‘Ronald Donald house’! She was especially excited to make it back for her favorite activity - family night! She’s scheduled to receive her next dose of immunotherapy on Wednesday, March 12th. We appreciate your prayers and ask for you to continue to pray specifically that she tolerates the immunotherapy and it is effective against the cancer!!

Mary Davis has received several packages and we want to thank everyone who has thought of her and sent her a special ‘happy’ - every one of them has made her day! (Most have come without any sender information so we’re not certain who specifically to thank.)

Update 2/13/2025: We made it safely to Cincinnati last week and it has been an absolute whirlwind since. When we saw Mary davis’ oncologist here he reviewed her PET results that showed hypermetabolic activity in the right lung nodule and immediately set up a biopsy that was performed Monday. Pathology from Mary Davis’ lung nodule biopsy is pending final results for confirmatory tests but the pathologist called Dr pressey to report the tissue is consistent with rhabdoid tumor. This means her cancer is relapsed and metastatic. Dr Pressey informed us of a clinical trial that Mary Davis qualifies for and we signed consent yesterday for her to be enrolled. Lots of things have to fall into play for her to meet the criteria to officially enroll in the study. Basically, she will have to get all new scans here and she will have a port placed next Tuesday in preparation for the new medicine to be started Wednesday. The new drugs are two types of immunotherapy that are thought to work synergistically. Put simply the cancer cells emit a type of protein that is able to evade the immune system, these immunotherapy drugs catch that protein and bring it to her immune system for attack. With the first 21 day cycle she will have weekly visits to monitor for any side effects/toxicities. We are looking at being here for the next month. If all goes well we will be able to come home between cycles and only come up for scans and the medicines to be given. Please pray with us that Mary davis tolerates these new medicines and that they are effective against

Please hold our family close in your prayers, not only for healing Mary Davis but also for our hearts. My dad (Chuck Tankersley) suddenly and unexpectedly passed away Tuesday morning. Paw Paw loved us more than life itself! He introduced Colin and me and he loved Colin as his own. To know my dad was to love him! He always brought the comic relief no matter how serious the situation and I could really use him right now. He has always been my biggest cheerleader. Trying to navigate these impossible decisions without his constant reassurance and his unwaivoring trust in us as parents seems daunting. Waking up the past few days without a “love yall” text that I got every single morning has hit really, really hard. 💔

Crazy how quickly time flies - can you believe it’s already been 3 months since Mary Davis’ last scans!? Mary Davis had surveillance scans last Friday. The mri of her head/neck was all good - everything looked stable 🙌🏼 but her chest CT showed the spot in the upper right lung has gotten slighter bigger and slightly more prominent. Given the aggressive nature of the type of cancer Mary Davis had her doctors feel it’s prudent to repeat a PET CT to be certain whether this spot is of concern.

In fun news, we happened to be at the Hope Clinic on Monday when some of the Senior Bowl players and USA cheerleaders came to visit! Pretty fitting since Reese’s peanut butter cups are Mary Davis’ favorite food (along with Kerrygold butter). 😆

Additionally, we will be traveling to Cincinnnnati next week for the 6 month airway scope follow up and her annual follow up with her Oncologist there. We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers for the PRT scan Friday and safe travel next week and good news on all the upcoming tests and appointments! 🩷

Mary Davis had the follow up ct scan of her chest Friday, which she did without any anesthesia or sedation - such a big, brave girl!!!! She had a Hope Clinic follow up appointment and everything looks good!! They think the areas they saw on the ct in September were most likely because she had a cold - thank you, Jesus!! She will resume her every routine surveillance scans every 3 months with the next ones due in January. Thank you all for your love and support! 💗

Including a few pictures from the past few weeks, including some from Halloween and her epic Ursula costume 🖤💜❤️
