Weight loss resistance is one of the most misunderstood signals I see.

Because it’s often framed as:

🚫 “Not trying hard enough”
🙅‍♀️ “Not doing the right diet”
🧠 “Not enough discipline”

But in many cases that’s not what’s happening. ✨

Your body is trying to protect you. Fat tissue is not just storage for calories; it’s also a storage site for toxins. 🧪

Over time, these compounds can accumulate, and your body uses fat as a safer place to store them. So when you attempt to lose weight, your body has to make a decision:

🔓 Release that fat (and the toxins with it)…
🛡️ Or hold on to protect you.
✨ This is where weight loss resistance can show up.

Not because your body is broken but because it’s being strategic. And if your detox pathways aren’t supported, your body may slow things down intentionally.

This is why a “calories in, calories out” approach often falls short. Because fat loss isn’t just about energy balance.

It’s about:

✨ Metabolic readiness
✨ Detox capacity

And this is where a more personalized, strategic approach matters!

In functional medicine, we do a great job of focusing on the internal terrain:

But there’s a second terrain that’s just as influential and often overlooked:

The conversation around hormone replacement therapy is changing. And it’s about time.

For years, women were told to fear estrogen. Much of that fear came from the 2002 WHI study that shaped how an entire generation of physicians and patients viewed hormone therapy.

But here’s what often gets left out of that conversation:

👉 The study used synthetic hormones not the bioidentical hormones we commonly use today
👉 The average participant was 63 years old (well beyond the typical window for starting therapy)
👉 Later data from the same study showed that women on estrogen alone actually had a lower risk of breast cancer

What we understand now is much more nuanced. When used appropriately and started at the right time, hormone therapy can:

💛 Support cardiovascular health
🧠 Protect cognitive function
🦴 Preserve bone density
✨ Improve overall quality of life

Testosterone in women is finally entering the conversation and it’s about time.

It’s becoming a recognized piece of midlife health.
