"4 out of 5 survivors of domestic abuse do not report to the police because many don’t expect to be listened to, believed, or protected.

That’s why the news that the Metropolitan Police relaxed vetting checks, allowing thousands into roles without proper scrutiny is so disturbing.

Predatory people are drawn to power and authority. They actively seek out roles that offer access, credibility, and protection from scrutiny.

I am actively working with people where domestic abuse has occurred and the perpetrator is in one of these positions of power.

Too often it’s assumed by their job title that they must be good respectful people.

Too often that is not the reality for many people who have experienced abuse at the hands of that same person.

It’s time for change and this news now puts the spotlight on this issue."
