Happy Foundations Friday Everyone! So this week I want to talk about my favorite herb. He Huan Pi or Mimosa Tree Bark. When I was a kid, these trees were my favorite in my yard. I might be a little responsible for some of the amount in this area since I used to play with the seeds and kind of throw them around. Oops. I didn't know about invasive plants when I was 7, just knew that I liked plants and playing with the seed pods. The flowers always seemed so magical and whimsical--even now as an adult, I still am in awe of their beauty every year.

This is a wonderful herb for anxiety or depression. I typically don't suggest single herbs for treatment, but this one is pretty safe to use on its own. Here in Alabama, Mimosa trees are everywhere (at least in Mobile). The bark and the flowers are used in Chinese Herbal Medicine. Each has a different indication for use. These can easily be made into tinctures for use at home if you are into learning how to make your own medicine.

These posts are for educational purposes only. They are not intended to treat or diagnose any condition.

I sure do miss working in the herbal dispensary at Academy for Five Element Acupuncture it was always so much fun writing up the formulas and then being able to bring that to life with the real herbs. The formula we were making was Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang and I modified it. I added in my favorite herb, He Huan Pi for some mental health support, plus a few other herbs to support the person under my care.

Definitely hope that one day I can have an herbal dispensary like this in my practice. Being around all of the herbs is just so wonderful!

I am a day late for Foundations Friday! Whoops! So.... happy Saturday :) Since it's Valentine's Day, I figured let's do Heart 7! It is the Source Point for the Heart Channel. This point is wonderful if you are dealing with a broken heart. I'm still mending my own heart after my dog Alfie passed away in November, so this point is one I utilize for my own self-care when I'm feeling down.

This point is also really great for anxiety or worry as it calms and steadies the Spirit of the Heart.

I hope you all have a wonderful day! I have a few spots left available for tonight's Community Acupuncture Clinic if you are looking for something to do. Message me to reserve your space if interested.

Tomorrow afternoon I’ll be giving a talk on East Asian Medicine. I will be covering a lot of information. My first degree is in history so I wanted to give a lot of that background, but I narrowed that section to 4 slides..much to my surprise lol. 😁

We will also discuss Yin Yang, Five Elements, Three Treasures, Vital Substances, Meridians, and more! I hope everyone will find it as fascinating as I do. Hope to see you there!

The Biomedical Library is hosting Jessica Ivey of The Ivey Garden of Wellness to deliver an introduction to East Asian medicine concepts on February 12th at 4:00pm. Join us as we celebrate the Lunar New Year! The Ivey Garden of Wellness
