MCHD WIC Clinic

MCHD WIC Clinic Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program. Call (888) 942-4673 to obtain further information.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under the age of five. One must meet income requirements and have a nutritional risk that proper nutrition could help to improve. If you think you may qualify, please call your county health department to make an appoi

ntment. At the WIC appointment, you will need to bring all three of the following:
•Proof of residency (a document with your street address on it, such as a lease or bill)
•Proof of identity (a driver's license, birth certificate)
•Proof of income (pay stubs) or proof of enrollment in a state program (automatic income eligibility if currently enrolled in TANF, Food Stamps, or Medicaid)

At the appointment, once the above is documented, you will be evaluated for nutritional risk. Nutritional risk is one of the main qualifying factors in determining benefit eligibility for pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women, and infants and children under five.

The Community Health Assessment being conducted by the Mobile County Health Department will wrap up on August 24. Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, wishes to share this open letter titled “Your Voice Counts” with the community:

We're nearing the end of completing our 2025 Community Health Assessment (CHA), and I want to thank those who have already taken the time to share their feedback.

This survey is more than a checklist. It's a vital tool for understanding how we're doing and where we can grow as a community and organization. Your honest input helps us shape a culture that supports excellence, respect, and meaningful public health services — not just in words, but in action.

If you haven't completed the survey yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. It only takes a few minutes, but your voice makes a lasting impact. It can be found at https://redcap.link/MCHDCHA2025.

Let's continue building a strong community we're all proud to be part of. Thank you for your input.

Thanks,

Kevin Philip Michaels, MD, MPH, FACOEM

Dr. Nina Ford-Johnson was a member of the Mobile County Board of Health from 2014 to 2019. She served as its President in 2016.

Now as the President-elect for the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, she recently submitted a guest column to AL.com as part of National Immunization Awareness Month. Dr. Ford-Johnson pointed out her message was landing just as Alabama braces for another season of flu, COVID-19 and RSV.

She wrote, “Vaccines remain our best defense for keeping classrooms open, hospital beds available and Friday-night lights burning.” The entire piece can be found at https://www.al.com/news/2025/08/vaccines-matter-to-you-me-and-alabama-op-ed.html.

Pursuant to Title 22 Code of Alabama 1975, the Board of Health includes six physicians serving on the Medical Society of Mobile County’s Board of Censors and the current president of the Mobile County Commission. The Board of Health meets monthly to review Mobile County Health Department activities and to provide guidance to Alabama’s oldest public health agency.
