At RGG Cardiology, we believe investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals strengthens both our community and the future of medicine. That is why we are proud to present our eighth annual $10,000 Bright Future Scholarship to a deserving local student pursuing a career in nursing.

We are thrilled to recognize Mr. Justin Anderson of Alma Bryant High School as the 2026 RGG Bright Future Scholarship recipient.

Justin has demonstrated remarkable academic excellence, leadership, and a heart for serving his community. This fall, he will begin attending the University of South Alabama to pursue nursing, with aspirations of one day becoming a pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

His compassion, dedication, and passion for helping others truly reflect the spirit of this scholarship. We look forward to supporting Justin as he takes the next steps toward a bright future in healthcare.

Congratulations, Justin Anderson! Your community is proud of you.

May is Stroke Awareness Month, and one of the hidden connections we see every day is Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and stroke risk.

Dr. Grosz, our board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist with over 20 years of experience, shares why this matters:

'Atrial fibrillation causes irregular heart rhythms that can lead to blood clots forming in the heart. These clots can travel to the brain and cause a stroke. The good news? With proper diagnosis, medication, ablation procedures, pacemakers, or defibrillators, we can significantly reduce that risk and help patients live fuller lives.'

If you experience palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, or dizziness, don’t ignore it. Early intervention saves lives.

Certain heart conditions can run in families, including cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, and early coronary artery disease.

If close relatives have experienced heart disease at a young age, it may increase your own cardiovascular risk.

Regular heart evaluations and preventive monitoring help identify potential concerns early and allow doctors to guide patients toward healthier outcomes.

Dr. Mitchell joined RGG Cardiology after assisting with healthcare needs in Maui following the Lahaina fires, where he contributed his expertise during a critical time for the community.

Originally from Miami, Florida, Dr. Mitchell’s academic and professional journey has taken him across the country. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Florida State University, followed by medical school at Tulane University, where he graduated with Honors while also completing a Master’s in Public Health (MD, MPH).

His internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship in Colorado provided extensive clinical training, along with research experience focused on advanced heart failure treatments. Outside the hospital, he embraced the region’s outdoors, becoming an enthusiastic skier and mountain biker.

Dr. Mitchell later spent 15 years in private cardiology practice in Portland, Oregon, before relocating to Maui and eventually making Mobile, Alabama his next chapter. He was drawn to the area and to the strong culture of patient care at RGG Cardiology.

As a general cardiologist, Dr. Mitchell values the ability to provide comprehensive care to his patients while collaborating with an exceptional team of physicians and healthcare professionals.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys gardening, landscaping, fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, who is also a physician, live on the water in Spanish Fort, and are proud parents of four children.

Dr. Mitchell is committed to helping patients live healthier lives through thoughtful, compassionate cardiovascular care.

Your heart is at the center of your overall health. It works continuously to deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, supporting every organ and every moment of your day.

On World Health Day, it’s a good reminder that protecting your heart begins with everyday choices — staying active, eating balanced meals, managing stress, and prioritizing regular health check-ups.

Preventive care and early screenings can help detect potential heart concerns before they become serious, allowing you to take control of your health sooner.

At RGG Cardiology, we believe that awareness, prevention, and expert care play an important role in helping individuals maintain strong heart health for the long term.

A healthier heart supports a healthier life.

Chronic inflammation in the body can contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease.

Inflammation can damage blood vessels over time, encouraging plaque buildup inside arteries and increasing the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Maintaining a balanced lifestyle, managing stress, and controlling risk factors like diabetes and cholesterol can help reduce inflammatory effects on the heart.
