At MedVet, caring for pets and their families starts with caring for ourselves. In honor of World Mental Health Day, we’re spotlighting a few of our caregivers and how they prioritize their mental health beyond their time in the hospital.

Making space to reset, find joy, and reconnect outside of work helps our teams stay present, compassionate, and energized for the patients and pet families who depend on them.

How are you prioritizing your mental health today?

Meet Meeko 💙 While he isn’t a current MedVet Akron patient, his visits always brighten our Neurology team’s day! Meeko’s family first came to us with their beloved dog, Sprocket, who was cared for by our Neurology team (led by Dr. Michele Provencher) before he sadly passed earlier this year. Since then, Meeko and his family have continued to stop by with goodies and smiles to share, a beautiful reminder of the special bonds we form with our patients and their families.

At MedVet, our Neurology team specializes in caring for pets with conditions that affect the brain, spine, and nerves, helping them regain balance, strength, and quality of life. From advanced diagnostics to personalized treatment plans, we’re proud to be trusted partners in helping pets and their families through some of their most important journeys.

🍂 Fall leaves may look like the perfect playground, but hidden dangers can linger beneath the surface. From animals to toxic microorganisms, leaf piles can pose serious risks to curious pets.

As you enjoy the season, be sure to keep a close eye on your pet during outdoor play. A little caution goes a long way in keeping tails wagging safely all autumn long.

When Lily’s curiosity got the best of her and she swallowed a whole spatula 😳 her family rushed her to MedVet Diley Hill's ER. Our team first tried to safely help her bring it back up using emesis (a process that induces vomiting), and when that didn’t work, Dr. Allie Schroeder performed a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure—using a tiny camera and special tools—to remove it without surgery.

The procedure was successful and Lily went home the same day, tail wagging and all! 💕 Here’s hoping she sticks to toys, not kitchen tools, from now on!

Meet Luxor, a stunning 50-pound Serval cat with a big personality and a curious spirit! 😺 When he swallowed some couch cushion, our team at MedVet Indianapolis teamed up with Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis to safely remove it using an endoscope—no surgery needed! This is a perfect example of how collaborative care (and a little feline courage) can save the day.

After a smooth recovery, Luxor was back home safe, sound, and ready for his next playful escapade (hopefully sticking to toys this time!). 🐾

Disclaimer: Servals are wild cats, and for everyone’s safety (including his own) Luxor was cared for under sedation. This allowed our team to safely examine and treat him without causing unnecessary stress or risk of injury.
