🚗✨ Car Seat Safety Tips for Holiday Travel ✨🚗
At FBL Physicians, your family’s safety is our top priority! With holiday travel in full swing, it’s essential to ensure your little ones are safe and secure during every car ride. Here are some tips to keep your children protected:
1️⃣ Choose the Right Seat
• Rear-Facing Seats: For infants and toddlers until at least age 2 or until they outgrow the seat’s weight and height limits.
• Forward-Facing Seats: For older toddlers with a harness until they reach the seat’s limits.
• Booster Seats: For kids who outgrow forward-facing seats until a seatbelt fits correctly (usually around age 8–12).
2️⃣ Ensure Proper Installation
• Follow the car seat manufacturer’s instructions and your vehicle’s manual.
• The seat should not move more than 1 inch when pulled at the base.
• If in doubt, visit a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician for a free check.
3️⃣ Dress Safely
• Avoid bulky coats or clothing. These can prevent the harness from fitting snugly.
• Use blankets over the harness for warmth if needed.
4️⃣ Secure the Harness Properly
• The harness should lie flat and snug against your child’s body.
• The chest clip should be at armpit level.
5️⃣ Check the Expiration Date
• Car seats expire after 6–10 years. Always check the label for the expiration date to ensure safety.
Bonus Tips for Holiday Travel:
• Plan extra stops to give your little ones a break from sitting.
• Keep snacks, water, and toys within reach to keep kids entertained and comfortable.
🎄 From our family at FBL Physicians to yours, we wish you safe travels and a joyful holiday season! If you have any questions about car seat safety or your child’s health, give us a call or schedule an appointment.
