The Gulf Coast Doula Collective meeting is such a highlight of my month. I’m so thankful for these women who show up everytime to help mentor other doulas and to the newer doulas who get to learn and grow in this profession. Doula work can be really tough done alone and to have all these shoulders to lean on is beautiful! So thankful to Colleen for opening up her space for our group and to Patricia who always spoils us with amazing food! Love all these ladies who give so selflessly and support our communities!

It was such an honor to get to celebrate Scotty Jacob Thomson and Michelle Lloyd opening their doors at Gulf Coast Lactation community center! This space will be such an amazing resource for families and I’m so thankful to be able to send my doula clients to both of these women who care so deeply for our pregnant and postpartum Mothers! Please share, donate and/or sponsor Gulf Coast Lactations future events and reach out if you have any questions on how to do that! So thankful to be a small part of the Alabama Lactation Coalition who is working towards efforts to expand insurance coverage for breastfeeding mothers and to continue to support Scotty and Michelle in their efforts to bring such a beautiful resource to our community!

Please donate to this very necessary service that Scotty is opening for families. BCBS has caused a healthcare crisis for mothers just trying to feed their babies successfully. Please put pressure on BCBS to change their policy so that postpartum Mom and babies can have the appropriate healthcare measures paid for by the insurance that they pay for monthly.

As of May 16, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama ended its partnership with The Lactation Network—leaving over 80% of our families without access to insurance-covered breastfeeding care.
In response, Gulf Coast Lactation, led by Scotty Thomson, RN, BSN, IBCLC, is launching a FREE Community Lactation Center in Daphne, AL — opening August 2025!
“Every family deserves access to compassionate, expert lactation care—regardless of income or insurance. But when Blue Cross Blue Shield ended its partnership with The Lactation Network, thousands of families lost access to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants overnight. Even before this change, many women faced barriers to outpatient lactation care due to restrictive insurance billing policies. We’re working to close that gap—because feeding your baby should never depend on your income or insurance card.” — Scotty Thomson

📢 Call for Donations: Help Us Open Gulf Coast Lactation!

The Alabama Lactation Coalition is collecting raffle and silent auction items to support the launch of Gulf Coast Lactation’s first physical center, opening August 2025 in Daphne, Alabama.

This nonprofit center will offer vital breastfeeding assistance, postpartum support groups, and a welcoming community space for mothers and their newborns. There is currently no other center like this in our region—and your help is essential to getting the doors open.

🍼 Why This Matters:
Breastfeeding success is directly linked to having access to skilled support and a strong community. Many mothers struggle silently during the early stages of motherhood, and isolation only makes it harder. Gulf Coast Lactation will be a lifeline—offering education, encouragement, and connection at a time when mothers need it most.

🤝 How You Can Help:
We are seeking donated items—big or small—for our raffle and silent auction. These items will help raise the startup funds needed to make this center a reality.

When labor and delivery nurses at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Florida adopted our techniques, their cesarean rate dropped from 27% to 14%. 🙌

Yesterday, I had the privilege of encapsulating TWO placentas—right in the comfort of their respective families’ homes! It’s such a special experience to bring this service directly to Moms, ensuring everything is done in the safest, most personalized way possible. 10 years has given me a lot of perspective on the process and data to see real results from people who hire me!

What makes placenta encapsulation so incredible?
Did you know that the placenta is the only organ your body creates during pregnancy?
