Long before I ever placed my hands on someone in a Reiki session, Japan was already woven into my life. My Aunt Chieko Omori came to the United States with my great-uncle Paul after the attack on Pearl Harbor. I can only imagine what she carried as a Japanese woman in America during that time. She was graceful, warm, and quietly extraordinary. She was my babysitter, my tea ceremony teacher who introduced me to Kimonos, and I believe, without ever naming it, my first introduction to the healing energy that would become my life's work. She told me stories of Japan that stayed with me for decades. This pilgrimage was for her, too. I finally made it, Aunt Chieko. :)
