🎉Celebrating Jeff Reed, this year's Golden Empire Council Honoree. 🏅 Recently, Jeff Reed was honored at the 10th Annual Golden Empire Council, BSA Boy Scouts of America Push Dinner in Sacramento, CA. Jeff’s journey in Scouting began at seven years old in Pack 136 and later Troop 36 in the Yosemite Area Council in Modesto, California. His early Scouting experience was shaped by his Scoutmaster Lenny Hughson, a WWII glider pilot who served on D-Day.
Jeff returned to Scouting as an adult when he stepped up as a den leader in Pack 195 in Vacaville in 1999. He successfully mentored nine Cub Scouts who bridged to Boy Scouts, with six eventually achieving Eagle Scout rank.
After joining the Board of the Golden Empire Council in the mid-2000s, Jeff served as Chairman from 2013 to 2015. During his tenure, he helped launch the very first Push Dinner, honoring Clint Myers of Myers & Sons.
As President & CEO of Reed Family Companies based in Modesto, CA, Jeff leads a diverse portfolio of businesses including VSS International, Inc. and George Reed Inc. With more than five decades of experience, he transformed VSS International from a small Northern California contractor into an international enterprise operating across 20 Western States.
His innovations resulted in numerous patents for pavement materials, processes, and equipment now utilized in over 50 countries worldwide. Reed holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA from Gonzaga University, where he recently served as Chairman of the Board of Regents.
Supporting Scouting’s Future: The Push Dinner served as a crucial fundraising event for the Golden Empire Council, with all proceeds directly supporting Scouting programs for boys and girls across Northern California. The council’s mission “to help prepare young people to make moral and ethical choices over their lifetime” continues to thrive thanks to dedicated supporters and leaders like Jeff Reed.
