🚛 The 3rd Annual Touch-A-Truck Modesto event brought together hundreds of local families for a day of exploration, learning, and fun. The event, hosted by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, continues to grow each year as a beloved community tradition. Visitors had the unique opportunity to get up close with an impressive lineup of heavy machinery and specialized vehicles including a loader, scraper, excavator, D2 dozer, roller, 7/11 Materials cement mixer truck, VSS Macropaver truck, water truck, and generator/film truck.

✨A highlight of this year’s event was our popular pet 🪨rock kits. Our team distributed 400 of these creative kits to young attendees. The kits have already inspired many young minds, with families sharing photos of their completed projects. Events like Touch-A-Truck represent the heart of our community engagement that provides education and allows our team members to connect directly with the communities we serve.

Reed Family Companies is a proud sponsor and none of this would be possible without our dedicated employees who spent countless hours preparing for the event and their Saturday engaging with visitors. Special thanks to Kenny Cooper, Stephany Garcia, and Ana Acevedo from George Reed Inc, Margaret Reed from RFC, and Donna Meister from Reed International for their extraordinary commitment to making this day special for everyone involved. 👏

We’re already looking forward to next year’s Touch-A-Truck event!

🎉Celebrating Jeff Reed, this year's Golden Empire Council Honoree. 🏅 Recently, Jeff Reed was honored at the 10th Annual Golden Empire Council, BSA Boy Scouts of America Push Dinner in Sacramento, CA. Jeff’s journey in Scouting began at seven years old in Pack 136 and later Troop 36 in the Yosemite Area Council in Modesto, California. His early Scouting experience was shaped by his Scoutmaster Lenny Hughson, a WWII glider pilot who served on D-Day.

Jeff returned to Scouting as an adult when he stepped up as a den leader in Pack 195 in Vacaville in 1999. He successfully mentored nine Cub Scouts who bridged to Boy Scouts, with six eventually achieving Eagle Scout rank.

After joining the Board of the Golden Empire Council in the mid-2000s, Jeff served as Chairman from 2013 to 2015. During his tenure, he helped launch the very first Push Dinner, honoring Clint Myers of Myers & Sons.

As President & CEO of Reed Family Companies based in Modesto, CA, Jeff leads a diverse portfolio of businesses including VSS International, Inc. and George Reed Inc. With more than five decades of experience, he transformed VSS International from a small Northern California contractor into an international enterprise operating across 20 Western States.

His innovations resulted in numerous patents for pavement materials, processes, and equipment now utilized in over 50 countries worldwide. Reed holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA from Gonzaga University, where he recently served as Chairman of the Board of Regents.

Supporting Scouting’s Future: The Push Dinner served as a crucial fundraising event for the Golden Empire Council, with all proceeds directly supporting Scouting programs for boys and girls across Northern California. The council’s mission “to help prepare young people to make moral and ethical choices over their lifetime” continues to thrive thanks to dedicated supporters and leaders like Jeff Reed.

🦺Construction Su***de Prevention Week (Sept 8-12): A Call to Action.

This week marks Construction Su***de Prevention Week during National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. Our industry loses approximately 6,000 workers annually to su***de, which is more than five times the number who die from workplace accidents.

While we prioritize physical safety daily, mental wellness must become equally important. Warning signs include mood changes, substance abuse, withdrawal, productivity drops, and increased conflicts.

Don't stop there. Set a reminder to check in with someone regularly – monthly, weekly or even daily. You have the power to build connections that could save lives. If someone isn't doing well, provide them with lifesaving resources, or call/text 988 if you or someone you know is in crisis.

Let's make mental health as important as wearing a hard hat. Learn more at www.constructionsu***deprevention.com.
