What started as a simple “Fun Friday” Corn Hole competition organically became something far more meaningful.
Four amputees, all at different stages of recovery and adaptation, spent the afternoon sharing experiences, challenges, and victories. Conversations ranged from prosthetic fit and comfort to the realities of toileting, showering, mobility, confidence, and navigating everyday life after limb loss.
What became clear very quickly: this was a space that was deeply needed.
Research consistently shows the importance of peer support within the limb loss community. Studies have demonstrated that amputees with strong social and peer connections experience improved emotional adjustment, higher prosthetic satisfaction, greater confidence in mobility, and decreased feelings of isolation. Sometimes the most impactful rehabilitation happens outside the clinic walls.
Community matters. Shared experience matters.
Yes, we eventually wrapped it up with some friendly competition as well.
