Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care

Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care We believe in affirming life. Questions about hospice? Call 773-941-4838

When given the news of a life-limiting illness, we have the choice of continuing to live with dignity, while remaining pain and symptom free. We are able to achieve this in the comfort of our own home (or, indeed, anywhere else that we call home) surrounded by those we love, those who mean the most to us. When medical care cannot offer a cure, hospice provides care, comfort and support for persons

with life-limiting conditions as well as their families. The hospice team works to make the patient comfortable while relieving their symptoms and pain for the entire length of the illness. At Oasis Hospice, we believe in affirming life and exist as a refuge for our patients and their families. We aim to improve the quality of life for our patients as they deal with life-limiting illnesses.

This Memorial Day, we remember.

We remember those who served. And we honor the families who sacrifice.

We also wanted to share a moment from last month's spring memorial service, where Chaplain Gray's musical tribute reminded us why this work is so important. Check out the article below to witness one of those moments.

And if you've lost someone, know that you're not alone.

Just over a week ago, we gathered at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights for our spring memorial service — a twice-yearly event we hold to honor the patients we've cared for and the families who've trusted us with their loved ones. It was a beautiful service.

Hospice care is often misunderstood.

Many think it's a last resort. Others think it means giving up.

The truth is simpler: hospice is a shift in focus. From aggressive treatment to comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

It's not about death. It's about life.

So how do you know if hospice is right for you and your family? We break it down — the four levels of care we offer, what makes Oasis different, and the questions you should be asking yourself right now.

Among the funds we offer through The Foundation, there is a transportation bucket for patients and family members who need assistance getting around.

Ms. Ericka, Founder & President of Tomis Community Foundation, sent us this note and donation to the Oasis Foundation in gratitude for how we served her mother after a negative experience with another hospice. In a moment of crisis, we stepped in to fill the gap so that a family could be together, at peace and free of worry, to cherish the moments that matter.

"On behalf of Tomis Community Foundation Inc., please accept this donation as a token of appreciation for the compassion, care, and support provided to my mother and our family during a very difficult time. Your kindness and willingness to assist with transportation and hospice support meant more than words can express. We are deeply grateful for the work your organization does for individuals and families in need."

This is why we do what we do.

God bless the hands that serve.

We rounded off Nurses Appreciation week with a small impartation. Our chaplains anointed the hands of our staff, and in so doing, consecrated the work we do in light of the depth it requires.

Thank you to every nurse, caregiver, and staff member who brings their whole self to this work. Oasis Hospice would not exist without you.

Meet Jenny, our Director of Nursing.

A fireball of energy who's passion for what she does extends to every patient she serves. Jenny has been with Oasis for over a decade now, and as we celebrate the beginning of nurses week, we want to take time and honor those who make this business possible.

Jenny leads our clinical team with expertise, compassion, and her commitment to excellence sets the tone for everything we do.

We're grateful for her every day.

If you're a nurse looking to work alongside incredible people like Jenny — we're hiring an Admissions RN and IPU Nurse for House of Goshen!

Twice a year, we set aside an afternoon to remember.

Just over a week ago, families, staff, and volunteers gathered at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights for our spring memorial service. A few hours of readings, music, stories, and shared reflection for the patients we've cared for and the families who walked through it with us.

Chaplain Michael Gray's two musical performances quieted the room. Families took the microphone to share stories about the people they've lost. Our Bereavement Coordinator Miranda Denler along with our volunteer and social work teams carried the whole day from start to finish.

To every family, every volunteer, every staff member who made it happen, thank you.

Volunteer appreciation week is over.

But we appreciate those who serve with us all year round. Here's a reminder to check out our short conversation with Rob McManamy to learn more about what serving with us looks like, and to subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay in the loop of what's happening at Oasis.

"I do not regret the decision at all.."

Rob McManamy came to hospice volunteering after a health scare of his own. A year in, through holiday drives, events, and helping MC our memorial service last week, he's found a kind of purpose he didn't have before.

Watch his story on YouTube.
