Alright so here is an update/prayer request….
Over the past few weeks Eliseo has had intermittent hip pain, the pain is pretty minor and doesnt happen often enough that it’s been something I am too concerned about, (all of his pain triggers my PTSD lol but I vent it out with friends and keep it under control).
Anyway, Tuesday, Eliseo called me because his knee was hurting, it was turning red and a little swollen, he swore he hadn’t hurt it in anyway so this concerned me. I went and checked him out so I could get a look for myself and triage whether we needed to go to the doctor. I decided it was something we could see our P*P for so we did that the next morning. Our oncology nurse asked about hip pain and I mentioned the few times he has told me about and the knee pain could be a secondary pain coming from the hip pain. Eliseo’s pain tolerance is so high now that he could very well be dealing with the hip pain by adjusting his walk and not realize it, causing the knee pain.
Insurance is a headache and declined a CT (because radiation causes cancer 🤦🏻♀️, imo what the heck doesn’t and been there done that but whatever). So we will do X-rays in the AM to check out what’s going on.
One of the things that is common with kids that have been on heavy dosages of steroids is something called AVN (Avascular Necrosis). Basically this is a disease that causes bone death due to the blood supply being cut off and the culprit is the steroids. The hope is to rule this out and it not be the diagnosis.
The stretch below is something I have to do with Eliseo everyday, it has been extremely painful for him but makes him feel so much better after the fact. I told his PT about the pains and the concerns and he did this and it has been so great for Eliseo in just a matter of hours!
There are other things we are working on that cancer/chemo have affected but for right now this is the biggest issue and one we need prayer for. I will keep you all updated as everything unfolds.
