In our ambulatory procedure center, the cabinets aren’t just cabinets; they’re a vibrant gallery of love and color. Most of the pages that brighten the space are colored by a little girl named Ruby, the daughter of one of our colleagues.

Her artwork has brought comfort and joy to patients, families, and staff alike. Each page is a charming reminder that creativity and kindness can turn even the most ordinary spaces into something special.

Thank you, Ruby, for sharing your heart and talent with us! 💕

Alisa, one of our CNAs and a talented artist, consistently finds ways to make our hospital a little brighter. Most recently, she purchased a rice cooker for our dietary team to use, helping us better meet the cultural and personal food needs of our patients.

It’s one more example of how our team members go above and beyond at the bedside to make patients feel at home, respected, and cared for in every way.

Thank you, Alisa, for your creativity and compassion, both in art and in patient care.

A second-year student in the GO CAPS Monett program is looking beyond high school. Meet Mya, a senior in the Mount Vernon R-V School District. She is eager to continue exploring and learning more about her career options.

Mya comes from a family of medical professionals; both of her parents work in the health care field. Growing up, she listened to their stories about caring for people, which fueled her passion of wanting to help others.

“Last year, I had the opportunity to job shadow with a local ambulance district, and let me just say, it was a wild day,” Mya says. “I came back to school, and my heart was still racing from the adrenaline. It was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had.”

After that shadowing experience and a year of learning, she is excited to return and participate in the EMT certification course.

“My ultimate goal is to get into nursing school, and I believe these experiences will help me achieve that,” she says. “GO CAPS has deepened my love for medicine, and I can’t wait to see where my journey takes me.”

We wish you a great year of learning, Mya!

𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻'𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: '𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱'

I was in Monett on a business trip when I started experiencing heart palpitations during the night. My colleagues recommended that I go to the Cox Monett Emergency Department for an evaluation, and I’m so glad that I did.

From the registration person to the nurse who took me back for treatment, I was blown away from the start. The team worked together so seamlessly, almost like watching a well-rehearsed performance. Everyone knew their role, but even more impressive was how they made me feel. I wasn’t just another patient; I was treated like the only person in the hospital. Every step of the way, they explained what was happening and ensured I understood the treatment plan.

As I transitioned to the medical-surgical unit, no one missed a beat. The care continued at the same exceptional level, with every nurse and staff member working in sync to keep me comfortable and informed, with a bit of humor thrown in. On top of that, I experienced the advanced technology of the virtual care team, which gave me confidence knowing that multiple experts were weighing in on my care in real time.

The level of care I received was beyond anything I could have imagined. The people at Cox Monett are precisely the kind of people I’d want to work for me – compassionate, professional, and dedicated.

I never once felt like a number.

There are a few caregivers I would specifically like to recognize:

-Dr. Lobati (hospitalist): He took the time to explain my care plan and listened.
-Kyla (RN): Kyla spent time talking with me, not just about my health, but family, kids, etc.
-Carla (CNA): She was very attentive.
-Keena (RN): An absolute delight and fun to interact with. She made sure I understood the discharge process.
-Others involved with my care were also exceptional: Dr. Kutter; Jess (RN); Lilly (CNA); and Pauline (CNA).

I live in Tennessee, but I can honestly say the care at Cox Monett was superior to anything I’ve ever experienced at home. If I lived closer, this would be my hospital of choice.

Two words: ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE!

Meet Hector, one of our new GO CAPS Monett Medicine and Healthcare Strand students. He is currently a junior at Purdy High School and a dedicated volunteer firefighter, so he knows what it means to serve others.

“I’ve always wanted to help people,” Hector shares with a smile. “I want to be there for them on their toughest days.”

Hector’s journey into health care began at home. He explains, “I got interested in health care early on by listening to my mom’s stories about compassion and kindness. I wanted to have a career that feels just as fulfilling.” His mom, Erika, works as a CNA at Cox Monett, and her inspiring example has guided him on this path.

We’re thrilled to support Hector and all our exceptional GO CAPS students as they embark on their journey of exploring health care careers.

Be sure to stay tuned as we’ll be highlighting another student next week.

Cox Monett Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Heart Failure Rural Silver recognition for its commitment to improving outcomes for patients with heart failure. This includes reducing readmissions and increasing the number of healthy days at home for patients.

Currently, approximately 6.7 million adults in the U.S. are living with heart failure (HF), and this number is expected to rise to over 8 million by 2030. Despite its name, heart failure does not mean that the heart has stopped working; rather, it indicates that the heart struggles to pump blood and oxygen effectively throughout the body. While there is no cure for HF, patients can maintain a good quality of life by collaborating with their healthcare team to create and adhere to a management plan that may encompass medication, symptom monitoring, and lifestyle changes.

The Get With The Guidelines - Heart Failure Rural Recognition award is granted to hospitals that demonstrate a commitment to treating patients according to the latest research-based guidelines for heart failure care, as outlined by the American Heart Association.

Each year, hospitals participating in this program qualify for recognition by showing how they have dedicated themselves to providing quality care for HF patients. Along with adhering to treatment guidelines, participants in Get With The Guidelines also provide education to patients to assist them in managing their condition at home.

Congratulations to our inpatient care teams on a job well done!

A DAISY Award is usually dedicated to nurses; however, one recent patient felt so profoundly impacted by the care she received that she took the time to nominate two outstanding respiratory therapists.

Toni and Robbin, we commend you! Your compassionate and expert care made such a difference that this patient felt compelled to recognize your dedication. While the nomination form may specify “nurse,” the heartfelt gratitude expressed speaks volumes about the impact you had.

Thank you both for embodying the spirit of patient-centered care.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
“Toni made me feel safe and helped me understand what I was facing in my health journey. She answered every one of my questions and made me feel cared for.”

“Robbin understood my pain. She comforted me when I needed it and treated me with empathy. She is a fantastic respiratory therapist!”

Cox Monett: Growing for you

Construction of the new hospital in Monett, Missouri, began in 2019 and will take approximately two years to complete. The new $42 million-dollar, 75,000-square-foot hospital will replace the current facility and will make quality health care even more readily available to the community.

Monett's hospital dates back to 1928, when local physician and World War I veteran Dr. William West opened an 18-bed hospital in Monett. Dr. West dedicated the majority of his life to medicine and the community. He helped establish the American Legion chapter in Monett and was a Mason and a member of About Ben Adhem Shrine at Springfield. When he decided to retire, he donated the hospital to the Vincentian Sisters of Charity so it could continue serving the community. The hospital operated as St. Vincent's until it was acquired by CoxHealth in 1993 and the name changed to Cox Monett. The current building was built in 1953 and has gone through numerous renovations over the years, including the addition of a physician's clinic in 1974 and a large renovation project in 1998 that included a new emergency department. The largest renovation and expansion project thus far happened in 2001 and included reinstating obstetric services and expanding and modernizing the medical-surgical unit. While the hospital has served the community well for many years, an updated and expanded facility will help us continue providing vital health care services with a focus on quality and innovation, as well as helping attract more providers to Monett. The new hospital is a key part of our mission to ensure rural communities have access to the health care they need, especially in critical, time-sensitive situations.
