This month, we recognize and celebrate . Each year, we observe this important time by honoring African American history, influential figures, and all individuals who identify as Black. Black history is an essential part of our nation’s history, and this month allows us to reflect on the powerful contributions, meaningful achievements, and profound challenges Black communities have experienced. We take this time to honor, respect, and uplift Black individuals around the world.

We are excited to announce our January Values Ambassador in the value of Respect is Tim! Tim has been doing maintenance at Garden View Place for a few years now and displays many of our values on a daily basis. Tim has extensive knowledge and experience that he uses to excel in his role. Not only this, but he has a strong work ethic and is willing to do whatever is needed, even helping out in other departments, such as housekeeping and culinary. Tim’s reliability and dedication do not go unnoticed.

One team member stated, “Tim makes everyone feel welcome and cared for. Tim shows us that joy and professionalism can go hand in hand. His positive attitude, humor, and genuine care for others creates an environment where people feel good about coming to work.” Another team member said, “Tim is always going above and beyond to accommodate residents and staff, inside and outside of the community, and always with a contagious smile and kind words.” One of our residents stated, “He will fix most anything that you ask. He is always friendly and will always greet you when he sees you. He is top-notch in my book!”

Thank you, Tim, for all you do for our community! We are forever grateful. ☺️

Today is ! We're taking this day to celebrate the power of learning at every age. Education doesn't stop as we grow in age, discovering new topics and information keeps the mind engaged, curious, and connected. Our residents love exploring subjects they may not be as familiar with, and we're proud to have those moments of lifelong learning in our communities.

We are happy to announce that our Resident of The Month for January is Jane! Jane is known for her extraordinary baking skills, as well as cooking at and owning Diamond Jim’s drive-in. Raised in Ion, Iowa, Jane never shied away from home; she always stayed at least three to five miles from her homestead. She is the oldest of her six remaining siblings but had a total of 10 siblings.

On February 7, 1956, she married the love of her life, Donald. Jane and Donald were married for 65 years, and they showed their devotion to each other through various adventures, running the drive-in, and raising their six children. She holds a lot of titles, but her favorites are housewife, baker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jane has 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who are the joys of her life. When Jane was asked about her proudest moments she responded with, “raising my six kids, my family, and Donald.”

In our community Jane enjoys participating in all of the activities, but her favorite is BINGO! Her advice to everyone is to be yourself and do what you think is best! Thank you, Jane, for being a cherished resident here in our community! ♥️

This month is ! It’s time to pause and think about how we can improve the quality of life we’re living right now. Change doesn’t have to be big, maybe it’s reading a few pages of a book each day, starting a simple workout routine, or letting go of a habit that no longer serves you. This month is about committing to bettering ourselves and supporting others, and it all begins with one small change.

What are you going to change this month?
