To end the summer semester, one of our amazing Aphasia Group members led everyone in a mosaic workshop. She, along with her graduate student clinician, planned this workshop all semester, making sure the schedule worked and all the supplies were gathered. This week, she walked us through each step and now we are all hooked on making mosaics!

🔔ALUMNA IN ACTION🔔

Graduate School Alumna from the ULM Speech-Language Pathology Program Kathryn Morgan, graduated in 2024 with a Master of Science degree.

Check out her thoughts on graduate education and being a ULM Graduate Student:

“Being a graduate student at ULM provided me with the ability to grow as not only a student, but as an individual preparing for the working world. ... [m]y professors and Program Director ensured that I would be provided with opportunities to connect with professionals within my field in order to further enhance my knowledge, as well as provide me with connections post-graduation for potential job opportunities and/or career paths.”

“My graduate degree has impacted my career now as a licensed speech-language pathologist by allowing me to carry a variety of skill sets developed during my hands-on therapy experience, combined with that of material gathered in the classroom. I am forever grateful to this university for providing me with a wonderful education and memories to last a lifetime. Talons out!”

Happy Juneteenth!

On this day in 1865, 900 days after the Emancipation Proclamation, word finally reached Galveston, Texas and the remaining enslaved were finally free. While today is a day of celebration, it has also become a day of reflection and education as we encourage deeper respect for the historical experiences and contributions of all Americans.

The University of Louisiana Monroe campus will be closed on Friday, June 20th in observance of Juneteenth.

“Completing my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Louisiana Monroe was an amazing two-year journey. Entering the program, I had a strong academic foundation, but graduate school challenged me to grow beyond the classroom. I developed not only as a student, but as a clinician. I learned to think critically, adapt quickly, and advocate for the diverse needs of my clients.

Each clinical placement pushed me out of my comfort zone and into real-world experiences where theory met practice. From working with children to supporting adults with complex communication needs, I learned to navigate unfamiliar situations with professionalism and empathy. These moments of uncertainty turned into confidence, and each challenge became an opportunity to learn.
Looking back, I’m proud of the growth I experienced and the resilience I built. Graduate school wasn’t just about earning a degree, it was about becoming a competent, compassionate clinician ready to make a difference.

I want to say a big thank you to all the professors at the ULM SLP department; I wouldn't have become the person I am today without y'all's guidance and support. I also want to thank my family, especially my grandparents for all the encouragement throughout the years. Lastly, I want to say thank a dear friend of mine for pushing me to go back to school and always providing me with guidance. Much love to everyone!”

Congratulations, Alexus!
