💥 What is Dry Needling? And who is it for?

Dry needling is a technique used by our physical therapists to treat muscle tension, pain, and movement restrictions — using a thin needle to target trigger points (aka “knots”) and release tight or overactive muscles.

💡 It’s NOT acupuncture — it’s rooted in modern musculoskeletal science and physical therapy principles.

✅ Dry needling can help:
🏃‍♂️ Athletes & active individuals
🤕 People with chronic or acute muscle pain
💥 Post-injury muscle tightness
🚴 Repetitive strain injuries (hello desk jobs + overhead athletes)
🧍‍♀️ Those with pelvic floor dysfunction, hip, or low back pain

🎯 The result?
✅ Less pain
✅ More mobility
✅ Better performance
✅ Faster recovery

Curious if dry needling is right for you?

🏃‍♀️💥 “But I’m active… why did I get injured?”

Even the most active, fit individuals deal with pain, injury, or setbacks — and here’s why:

🔹 Overuse without recovery
🔹 Poor movement patterns or compensation
🔹 Muscle imbalances or mobility restrictions
🔹 Underlying core or pelvic floor issues
🔹 Pushing through pain (you know who you are 👀)

👉 Being active is amazing — but it doesn’t make you invincible.

At MOVE Physical Therapy, we take a fitness-forward approach to help active people:

✅ Understand why the injury happened
✅ Address the root cause — not just the symptoms
✅ Build strength, mobility & control where it matters
✅ Return to sport or training with confidence
✅ Come back even stronger than before 💪

Whether you’re a runner, lifter, athlete, or weekend warrior — we’re here to help you move better and keep doing what you love 🔁

📲 Ready to recover smarter and stronger? Let’s get started.

🧾 Let’s Talk Insurance Terms!

Understanding your benefits can help you make the most of your care 💡

🔹 Co-Pay: This is a set amount you pay at each physical therapy visit—usually listed on your insurance card. It’s separate from your deductible or co-insurance and is due at the time of service.

🔹 Visit Limit: Some insurance plans cap the number of physical therapy visits you’re allowed each year (like 20 visits). After that, you may need extra approval or may be responsible for additional costs.

🔹 Authorization: Some insurance plans require pre-approval (authorization) before starting PT. Don’t worry—we’ll help handle that process to make things as smooth as possible.

🩺 Insurance Terms Made Simple 🧾

Understanding your health insurance can feel overwhelming, but we’ve got you! Let’s break down three key terms you need to know:

👉 Premium: This is what you pay each month to have health insurance—think of it like a subscription fee. You pay it whether you use healthcare services or not.

👉 Deductible: This is the amount you pay out of pocket each year for medical care before your insurance starts covering costs. Example: If your deductible is $1,500, you pay the first $1,500 of your care costs.

👉 Out-of-Pocket Maximum: This is the most you’ll have to pay in a year for covered care. After hitting this limit, your insurance covers 100% of costs. It includes your deductible, copays, and coinsurance.

🎯 Understanding these helps you make smart decisions about your care and finances!

🧠 Trivia Time! 🧠
True or False: In Michigan, you need a doctor’s referral to start physical therapy.

Reveal: ✅ FALSE! Thanks to Michigan’s Direct Access law (Public Act 260 of 2014), you can begin physical therapy without a physician’s referral—for up to 10 visits or 21 days .

That said, many insurers still want a signed plan of care from your doctor before they’ll cover the cost . So while you can start PT immediately, check your insurance first to avoid surprises. 💡

Why this matters:
✅ Faster access: No waiting weeks for a referral
💵 Potential savings: Skip extra doctor’s visits
🛡️ Better outcomes: Early treatment = quicker recovery

✅ Final takeaway:
You don’t need a referral to start PT in Michigan, but insurance might require one to pay. Always verify with your provider before booking.
