February is American Heart Month ❤️

Cardiac arrest remains a leading cause of death in the U.S., with more than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year—and nearly 90% proving fatal. Immediate CPR can double or triple survival, yet only 41% of victims receive bystander CPR.

YOU can make a difference by learning CPR at one of our classes or other local organizations!

Stay tuned for upcoming CPR class dates!

Together, we can increase bystander action, strengthen community readiness, and save more lives.

❄️ MVEMS Winter Weather Advisory ❄️
With temperatures dropping below 0°F and wind chills reaching -10°F, the risk of hypothermia and frostbite is high.

🧊 Hypothermia occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce it. Warning signs include intense shivering, confusion, slurred speech, and extreme fatigue.
🧤 Frostbite can develop quickly in these conditions, especially on exposed skin such as fingers, toes, ears, and noses.

⚠️ Protect yourself and others:
• Limit time outdoors
• Dress in warm layers and cover exposed skin
• Check on elderly neighbors and those without reliable heat
• Bring pets indoors

If you or someone else shows signs of hypothermia or frostbite, seek medical attention promptly. Stay warm, stay safe, and look out for one another.

Last night we rolled out the ‘blue carpet’ and had the honor of celebrating the heart of Monroe EMS—our volunteers.

With over 1,700 calls answered and 10,000+ volunteer hours given in service to our community—these men and women truly embody what it means to be “Neighbors helping neighbors.”

Thank you for your selfless dedication, compassion, and commitment to Monroe.

A special thanks to Testo’s Restaurant for hosting and to Cynthia Marie for planning a fantastic Monroe EMS Member Appreciation celebration. And finally, thank you Easton EMS for covering the town while we celebrated.

Happy New Year!

We were pleased to drop off dinner on New Year’s Eve for the team at the Southwest Regional Communications Center (CMED).

Our dispatchers and 911 call takers play a critical role in helping us respond quickly to EMS calls and providing over-the-phone instructions so care can begin immediately. Thank you for everything you do—we appreciate you.

Our Story

Established in 1977, MVEMS is a volunteer, state certified Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance service which serves Monroe's community of around 20,000 people and responds to approximately 1,500 medical emergencies each year. The MVEMS membership is comprised of a majority of Connecticut and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certified EMTs. The remaining members are Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), trained in BLS CPR and advanced first aid assist to assist their EMT partners.

In addition to its volunteers, MVEMS contracts a paramedic from Valley Emergency Medical Services stationed at EMS Headquarters 24/7 ready to respond to life-threatening medical emergencies. MVEMS currently provides emergency care for the Town of Monroe 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, throughout the entire calendar year. Members annually volunteer more than 20,000 hours of community service.

In addition to providing the town's emergency medical service, MVEMS sponsors various training opportunities for the town. Every year MVEMS conducts an EMT-Basic class which allows members of the community, surrounding towns, and the town Firemen, to become NREMT and Connecticut certified EMT's. MVEMS also provides a series of courses to the public including AHA CPR, Stop the Bleed, and First Aid to enhance community medical education.
