Local Doctor helps USA Team earn GOLD Medal and Set Records at 2025 World Disabled Water Ski Championships
The U.S. Disabled Water Ski Team earned the world team gold medal at the IWWF Disabled Water Ski World Championships, November 27-30, 2025 at the Max Kirwan Water Ski Parks in Mulwala, NSW Australia. The U.S. won the gold medal, Australia earned the silver medal and Canada earned the bronze medal during the biennial event. More than 40 athletes from 12 countries participated in the championships.
Within each event (slalom, tricks and jumping), athletes were grouped into the three categories of seated (paraplegics and quadriplegics), standing (arm and/or leg disabilities with or without prosthesis) and vision impaired (partially or totally blind). The thirteen U.S. team members earned 11 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.
The team staff included Jessica Van Dyk (Grand Rapids, MI), manager, Brian Detrick (Elk Grove, CA), coach and Dr. Keith Barbour (Monroe, MI), team physician.
Dr. Barbour has been the team physician for the USA Disabled Waterski Team since 1989. He attends national and international events yearly where he tends to the medical needs of all world team’s members, support staff and officials.
