A WONDERFUL Success Story from one of our patients..."Before starting PT I was not able to lay down on my back without pain. I am now able to lay flat with my legs also flat. This has helped me get more sleep at night. I am able to stretch my lower back after my PT sessions, finally after 2 months of not going able to hardly move. I now walk about 2 miles per day... before I couldn't even walk to my basement." Tom J. If you or someone you care about is in pain call Rehabilitation Specialists of Monroe at (734)241-0560 TODAY!

BREAKTHROUGH PAIN RELIEF ARRIVES IN MONROE, MI: SHOCKWAVE THERAPY NOW AVAILABLE LOCALLY!

Residents of Monroe suffering from chronic muscle and joint pain have a new non-surgical option: extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), a cutting edge treatment, is now being offered by Rehabilitation Specialists of Monroe, located at 905 N. Macomb Street, Suite 3, Monroe, Mi 48162.

Originally developed from technology used to break up kidney stones, shockwave therapy has evolved into a proven method for treating stubborn musculoskeletal conditions, sending high energy sound waves into injured tissue, stimulating the body’s natural healing processes deep within the tissue, without incisions. This increases blood flow, promotes new vessel growth, boosts collagen production, helps dissolve painful calcifications and break up scar tissue, reduces inflammation and stimulates stem cells and growth factors essential for tissue repair.

This technology can be used for many conditions including plantar fasciitis (Heel Pain) Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff issues, tennis elbow, patellar tendinopathy and other chronic tendon or facia problems that haven’t responded to rest, physical therapy or injections. The treatments are performed outpatient, require no anesthesia and involve minimal discomfort or downtime. They last about 15-30 minutes and patients frequently see significant improvement after just 3-6 sessions.

Local Doctor helps USA Team earn GOLD Medal and Set Records at 2025 World Disabled Water Ski Championships

The U.S. Disabled Water Ski Team earned the world team gold medal at the IWWF Disabled Water Ski World Championships, November 27-30, 2025 at the Max Kirwan Water Ski Parks in Mulwala, NSW Australia. The U.S. won the gold medal, Australia earned the silver medal and Canada earned the bronze medal during the biennial event. More than 40 athletes from 12 countries participated in the championships.

Within each event (slalom, tricks and jumping), athletes were grouped into the three categories of seated (paraplegics and quadriplegics), standing (arm and/or leg disabilities with or without prosthesis) and vision impaired (partially or totally blind). The thirteen U.S. team members earned 11 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.

The team staff included Jessica Van Dyk (Grand Rapids, MI), manager, Brian Detrick (Elk Grove, CA), coach and Dr. Keith Barbour (Monroe, MI), team physician.

Dr. Barbour has been the team physician for the USA Disabled Waterski Team since 1989. He attends national and international events yearly where he tends to the medical needs of all world team’s members, support staff and officials.

He is the owner of Rehabilitation Specialists of Monroe, located at 905 N. Macomb Street Suite 3, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 241-0560.
