🎒 Why School Is Physically Demanding
It’s not just mental effort—school requires real physical and sensory work that can challenge a child’s development.

🧩 How Pediatric Therapy Helps
Our team of Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapists targets school readiness through playful, personalized strategies like:

OT: Builds hand strength, visual-motor skills, and sensory processing
PT: Improves endurance, gross motor skills, and balance
SLP: Enhances communication, social engagement, and classroom participation

Therapy isn’t just about catching up—it’s about feeling confident in daily routines and environments.

👃🖐️🧠 What is sensory processing—and why does it matter?

Every day, kids take in information through their senses: sound, touch, movement, smell, and more. For some children, this input can feel too much or not enough, making it hard to focus, play, or stay calm.

Occupational therapy helps kids with:
• Sensory seeking (e.g., crashing, spinning, chewing)
• Sensory avoidance (e.g., covering ears, picky eating, clothing sensitivity)
• Building self-regulation skills to handle daily environments

The goal isn’t to “fix” how a child senses the world—it’s to help them understand, navigate, and thrive in it.

✂️ No time for fancy toys? Grab a pair of kid-safe scissors and let your child practice cutting paper strips or shapes. It builds hand strength and coordination—key skills for writing later on!

Try it today and watch those little hands grow stronger!

Therapy Tip: Make a Fine Motor “Treasure Hunt”!

Hide small toys or beads in playdough or dry rice and have your child dig them out with tweezers or fingers.

It’s fun, it builds strength, and it keeps little hands busy!

✋ Did you know grasping develops in stages?

From palmar (whole-hand) grasp to neat pincer grasp, each step builds the foundation for future skills like writing, buttoning, and feeding.

Here’s a quick look at the progression:
👶 4–6 months: Raking grasp
👧 6–9 months: Radial digital grasp
👦 9–12 months: Neat pincer grasp (thumb + index finger)

If your child struggles with grasping small items, our OT team can help strengthen hand muscles and coordination with playful, purposeful strategies.

Big breakthroughs often happen in small moments—especially the “in-betweens.”

Transitions like:
• Getting into the car
• Moving from play to cleanup
• Putting on shoes

These are prime times to build language, self-regulation, and routine-following.
Our therapists teach skills in real-life moments—because that’s where growth sticks.

If your toddler isn’t saying words yet, that doesn’t automatically mean a disorder.

We also look for:
👀 Eye contact
👐 Gestures (pointing, waving)
📢 Babbling or vocal play
🧠 Understanding of familiar words

Speech is just one piece of the puzzle.
If those early building blocks are in place, we might just need more time—or gentle support to boost development.
