According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, every season is associated with specific organs, and winter is no exception. While autumn is associated with the large intestine and lungs, winter is associated with the kidneys, which means we need to work extra hard to support them this time of year.
Our kidneys store our life energy, also known as Jing, and when our kidney energy becomes weakened, we can become more susceptible to illness and fatigue. Luckily, there are plenty of things you can do to take care of your kidneys this winter! See below for our favorite tips:
1. Keep your low back and feet warm at all times, since these areas are associated with our kidneys.
2. Avoid iced drinks and cold foods. This is the season for warm, slow-cooked meals, such as hearty soups and stews.
3. Rest more! Winter is the time for hibernation in nature, and for us, it is no different. Take this season slowly and give yourself permission to slow down, rest, and build your energy reserves for spring.
