As the seasons shift, so do we. Fall reminds us that change can be beautiful, but it can also feel heavy. Shorter days, cooler weather, and the upcoming time change can impact our mood, energy, and even our mental health.

This is actually one of the best times to begin therapy because seasonal transitions can bring up old emotions, daylight savings can affect sleep and mood, and a new season gives us a fresh start to focus on healing and growth.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy, now is the perfect time to begin. You don’t have to navigate these changes alone. We are here to help you move into this next season with clarity, peace, and support.

Call us at 318-582-5147 or visit www.healingjourneycc.com
to schedule your session today.

Let this fall be the season you choose you.

How many times have you told yourself that?

The truth is later usually turns into months or even years of carrying stress, pain, and emotions you were never meant to hold alone.

As the Clinical Director of Healing Journey Counseling Center, I want you to know therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about supporting you, giving you tools, and reminding you that healing is possible at any stage of life.

Don’t wait until you feel like you’re breaking.
Don’t convince yourself you have to “just be strong.”
Don’t put yourself last on the list.

✨Happy Friday!

As we head into the weekend, remember that rest is not a reward. It's a necessity.

So many of us push through the week carrying stress, worry, and responsibilities without pause. Give yourself permission to slow down, reset, and tend to your mental health this weekend.

Whether that looks like catching up on sleep, enjoying time outdoors, journaling, or simply doing nothing at all. Choose what brings you peace. 🍂

Your healing journey isn’t just about therapy sessions. It’s also about the small choices you make each day to care for your mind and body.

September is Su***de Awareness Month!

As licensed counselors, we want to remind you that suicidal thoughts don’t always appear in obvious ways. Especially this time of year, as the days get shorter and the season shifts, many people simply describe feeling “low,” “off,” or more tired than usual.

We see it in our work all the time. It doesn’t always sound like “I want to end my life.” Sometimes it looks like:

Pulling back from friends or family

Losing motivation or struggling to focus

Sleeping more than usual or not enough

Saying things like, “I just don’t feel like myself.”

These are often the quiet signals that someone is carrying more than they can manage alone. Therapy provides a safe place to process those feelings before they grow heavier.

Just like fall reminds us that change is natural, therapy can be a step toward releasing what no longer serves you and making room for something new.

If you or someone you love is in crisis, please call 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Truth is if you’re using insurance, therapists are required to provide a diagnosis for billing purposes. This is because insurance companies only cover treatment when it meets medical necessity meaning there must be a documented condition to justify services.

What this DOES NOT mean:

You’re being “judged” or “labeled for life.”
The diagnosis defines who you are.

What this DOES mean:

Your therapist is following ethical + insurance guidelines.
Your diagnosis helps insurance approve coverage.

You and your therapist can create a plan that fits your needs.

Remember, a diagnosis is a tool not your identity.

At Healing Journey Counseling Center, our goal is to treat you as a whole person not just a label.

Here are 3 signs you may need stronger boundaries:

1. You feel drained after certain conversations or relationships.
2. You say “yes” when you really want to say “no.”
3. You feel guilty when you put your needs first.

You can start small by practice saying:

“I can’t commit to that right now.”

“That doesn’t work for me, but thank you.”

“I need some time to recharge.”

Strong boundaries = healthy relationships + better mental health.

Healing Journey Counseling Center is here to support you in learning, setting, and keeping healthy boundaries. Therapy can help you practice these tools without guilt or shame.

It looks like....
1. Clear communication: Communicating the issue instead of staying silent and resentful.

2. Following through on boundaries: f someone crosses your boundary after you’ve communicated it, you respond with action and not just complain. Action such as limiting access and ending the conversation.

3. Not accepting excuses as change: Repeated apologies without different behavior is no accountability. Do not let words pacify you when the actions don’t align.

4. Naming the impact: Instead of only pointing out what they did, you explain how it affected you.

5. Being willing to walk away: Sometimes the only way to hold someone accountable is by no longer giving them access to you.

6. Staying Consistent: Holding others accountable doesn’t mean a one-time confrontation. It’s showing up the same way each time so people learn you mean what you say.
