I'm so angry all the time. Was I just born that way? 😡

While genetics can play a role in how we manage anger, it’s not the whole story. Learned behavior and environmental factors also influence how we cope with frustration. The good news? Anger is something you can learn to manage, no matter where it comes from.

As Viktor Frankl said, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” With that quote in mind, you can pause before responding. It can make all the difference in stopping things from getting worse.

Tools like Anger Management Groups, CBT, or Somatic Therapy can help you challenge old patterns and build healthier habits. You can also add quick somatic techniques to your routine, such as:

🌬️ Sitali Breathing – Cool down fiery emotions.
🖐️ The Wall Push – Safely release anger into a wall.

Today, on Transgender Remembrance Day, we take a moment to honor the lives of transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to violence and discrimination.

We want to acknowledge and stand with our transgender clients and community members. Your experiences matter, your voices are heard, and we are here to offer support, compassion, and a safe space to navigate life’s challenges.

As we remember those we have lost, we also renew our commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity, where all people, regardless of their gender identity, can feel seen, supported, and respected.

Honoring Veterans Day: Supporting Veterans with PTSD 🇺🇸

Today, we honor those who have served our country, recognizing the sacrifices and the challenges many veterans face even after returning home. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), between 11–20% of veterans experience PTSD each year — much higher than the general population’s past-year estimate of less than 4%. At Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh, we offer specialized therapies designed to help veterans process trauma and find healing.

✨ Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): Helps you to identify and reframe unhelpful thoughts, exploring how trauma has shaped beliefs about Safety, Trust, Power/Control, Intimacy, and Esteem to foster healing and healthier perspectives.

✨ Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Uses guided eye movements or sounds while recalling painful memories, helping the brain process and reframe these events in a way that lessens their impact.

✨ Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): A structured approach that blends relaxation techniques, emotional expression, and gradual exposure to trauma-related memories. Empowers iyou to reshape unhelpful thought patterns and manage difficult emotions.

✨ Somatic Therapy: Focuses on the mind-body connection to process trauma through awareness of bodily sensations, movement, and physical grounding. Works to release trauma stored in the body, supporting emotional regulation.

If you or someone you know could benefit from PTSD support, our trained and compassionate therapists are here to help. Reach out at 412-856-WELL or head here: https://counselingwellnesspgh.com/counseling/ptsd-treatment/.

This Veterans Day, we thank you for your service and stand ready to support your path to healing. ❤️🤍💙 🇺🇸

Have you ever been called lazy? Tired of beating yourself up for “being lazy”? 😞

Sometimes, what looks like laziness could be a sign of something deeper, like overwhelm, burnout, or even depression. 🌧️ It might mean it’s time to check in with your mental and emotional well-being. 💙

Remember to approach yourself with compassion, take small steps, and reach out for support if you need it. You don’t have to do it alone. 🤝✨

September is Su***de Prevention Month, a time to educate people about the signs of suicidal ideation but also to equip them with the right tools and language to engage in meaningful conversations with those who may be feeling hopeless.

One of the most critical moments in su***de prevention is how we respond to someone expressing suicidal thoughts. Our words can have a significant impact, potentially opening the door for healing or closing it. Knowing what to say—and what not to say—can make a huge impact.

➡️ Swipe for What to Say and What Not to Say if someone opens up to you about having suicidal thoughts.
📲 Share this to help others.

🎬 Many of you have been following the buzz around Blake Lively and the controversy surrounding the marketing of her latest film, It Ends With Us. The movie, which tackles the serious issue of domestic violence, has sparked a lot of criticism for being marketed as a romantic comedy. This has led many women, who may have a history of abuse, to feel triggered when watching it.

Licensed Professional Counselor Stephanie Wijkstrom offers her perspective on the film’s themes and addresses the question so often asked: “Why didn’t you just leave?”

Let’s start an important conversation about this complex issue and the realities that so many face.
