What’s going on:
There are thousands of lawsuits now consolidated into a multidistrict litigation (MDL) involving Ozempic and other similar drugs (GLP-1 receptor agonists).
Plaintiffs are alleging that manufacturers (including Novo Nordisk, maker of Ozempic) failed to properly warn patients and doctors about certain serious side effects.
Some of the side effects include gastrointestinal issues (like gastroparesis), vision problems (including a condition called NAION — non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy), gallbladder disease, and more.
Legal analysts estimate potential liability (if/when lawsuits are resolved, settled, or verdicts reached) could exceed $2 billion. This figure takes into account the number of injured individuals, severity of injuries, medical costs, pain & suffering, etc.
