🌡️ Tips for Seniors to Beat the Heat 🌞

As summer heats up in Helena and Butte, let’s keep our seniors safe and comfortable! Here are some easy tips to stay cool:

💧 Stay Hydrated
Drink water all day, even if you’re not thirsty. Skip sugary drinks, caffeine, or alcohol—they can dehydrate you!

🏠 Stay Indoors During Peak Heat
Avoid going outside from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when it’s hottest. No AC? Visit a cool spot like a library or senior center.

👕 Wear Light Clothing
Choose loose, light-colored clothes (cotton is best!) to stay comfortable.

❄️ Keep Your Home Cool
Use fans, AC, or close curtains to block heat. If your home’s too warm, ask family or community services for help.

🚿 Cool Off with Water
Take a cool shower or place a damp towel on your neck or wrists to feel refreshed.

🚨 Watch for Warning Signs
Dizziness, headache, nausea, or confusion could mean heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Get medical help right away if you notice these!

🤗 Check In on Loved Ones
Family and friends, let’s check on our seniors regularly to make sure they’re safe and cool.

Stay safe this heat wave! Share these tips to help our seniors stay healthy and happy. 💙

🌍 Today, June 27, 2025, is PTSD Awareness Day—a day to shine a light on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and show support for those living with it. PTSD can touch anyone who’s faced trauma, from veterans to survivors of abuse, accidents, or disasters. Symptoms like flashbacks, anxiety, and emotional numbness can be deeply challenging, but understanding and compassion can make a difference.

💙 Palliative and hospice care can be a lifeline for those with PTSD, especially when facing serious illness or end-of-life moments. These care teams offer trauma-informed counseling, stress management, and holistic support to ease symptoms like anxiety or intrusive memories, providing comfort and dignity for individuals and their families.

Let’s break the stigma by listening, learning, and sharing resources. A kind word or a check-in can go a long way. If you or someone you know needs help, connect with professionals or organizations like the National Center for PTSD. Learn more how Palliative or Hospice Care can benefit those with PTSD at https://hwhospice.com/social-and-spiritual-services/

Together, we can foster healing and hope. 💜

Understanding Hospice Patient Rights: Your Dignity, Your Choice

In hospice care, every patient has rights that are designed to ensure they receive care that is compassionate, respectful, and aligned with their wishes. At Headwaters Hospice and Palliative Care we are committed to empowering our patients and their families by providing clear information about their rights, so they can make informed decisions during this important time.

💜 Key Hospice Patient Rights Include:

• Respect and Dignity: Every patient has the right to be treated with kindness, compassion, and respect, regardless of their circumstances.
• Informed Decisions: Patients have the right to receive clear and understandable information about their diagnosis, treatment options, and the care they will receive.
• Control Over Care: Each patient has the right to make choices about their own care plan, including the right to accept or refuse treatment.
• Comfort and Support: Patients are entitled to pain management, emotional support, and spiritual care that honors their personal beliefs and preferences.
• Confidentiality: Patients have the right to privacy regarding their medical condition and personal information.

Understanding these rights helps patients and their loved ones feel more confident and supported as they navigate their hospice journey. We believe that everyone deserves to have their voice heard and to be treated with the utmost dignity at every step of the way.

If you have any questions about hospice care or your rights as a patient, call us at (406) 422-0114 or just visit our website https://hwhospice.com/.
