Montana City Counseling "Offers A Fresh Approach for the Stresses of Today's Individual and Families." Dr. Emerson specializes in Adult, Family and Couples issues, where he assesses emotional, cognitive and personal stresses; providing early identification, understanding and treatment of underlying issues and current problems. Early identification, understanding and treatment have often been ident

ified as the missing link in effective service. Once a problem has been defined and understood, the solution is sometimes obvious and easily achieved. Unfortunately, the stresses of life often make it difficult to identify and define the problem within a variety of work, academic, interpersonal and family settings. Dr. Emerson is available to help clarify the problem, identify the issues and point out various paths to a solution. As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Certified Mental Health Professional, Dr. Emerson brings over 30 years of experience and expertise to the assessment and counseling field. Understanding the difficult roles of all concerned, Dr.Emerson can help identify and bridge potential problem areas. "ONCE A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DEFINED AND UNDERSTOOD, THE SOLUTION IS SOMETIMES OBVIOUS AND EASILY ACHIEVED."

We often take old emotional responses for granted- just because it's always been this way, it'll be this way this time, too.

Here's your reminder that it doesn't have to be the old way anymore. You might surprise yourself if you open up to a new way of being.

You can approach an old thing in a new light. With new skills, a new relationship to the hard stuff. Don't take the same old feelings for granted.

If you open yourself up to the possibility that this time it CAN be different-maybe it will be.

Trouble sleeping. Dr. Amy Lee MD suggests this.

1. The “4-7-8 method”

This simple exercise helps calm your mind before bed…

Meaning it’s perfect for those nights when you can’t fall asleep due to thoughts racing in your head.

Simply breathe in deeply through your nose for 4 seconds… hold your breath for 7 seconds… then exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds.

Repeat this exercise 4 times, and you should be sleeping in no time.

Why does this technique work?

It helps your lungs get completely full of air, helping more oxygen circulate throughout your body — promoting a state of relaxation.

2. Keep your feet toasty

At some point in your life, you might’ve found yourself in the old “socks vs. no socks in bed” debate.

Turns out, pro-socks people may get the last laugh… and better sleep.

Studies show if you have cold feet, your brain may not get the memo that it's time to snooze.1

But by keeping your feet warm, it helps blood vessels dilate — signaling to your brain that it’s bedtime…

So if you want to fall asleep faster — wear a pair of socks to bed.

3. Avoid “screen time” an hour before bed

There’s a common bedtime routine you might be guilty of:

Turn off the lights, crawl into bed, then reach for your cell phone.

But did you know:

“Blue light” from electronic devices like smartphones weakens your production of melatonin — the hormone which controls your internal “sleep clock.”

This makes it even more difficult to fall asleep and wake up the next day.

So, when it’s time to turn your brain off — you should do the same to your electronic devices…

Especially an hour before bedtime.
