Like many of my clients, I do challenging things consistently. What’s not shown is the nutrition, recovery, test, mindfulness and intelligent coaching. (Thanks Lift *your* heavy things, but also let yourself heal and rejuvenate. Nourishment is key. Moms know what I mean.

Have you had trouble understanding the recommendations around alcohol and breastfeeding?
Alcohol passes freely into milk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when drunk with food. But what does that mean? This does not mean that your milk has as much alcohol as an alcoholic beverage. It does mean that your breastmilk has as much alcohol as your blood after an alcoholic beverage. For instance, a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.10 (0.10% or one tenth of one percent) means that there is 0.10% alcohol content in your milk. You can compare that to the typical glass of wine which is 11-13% alcohol content or liquor which is 28-60% alcohol content.
Check this link for more evidence-based information about alcohol and breastfeeding here: https://lllusa.org/breastfeeding-and-alcohol/

[Image: Photo of a glass of red wine. Text: Thinking of drinking alcohol while nursing? Alcohol is present in breastmilk at the same levels as it is present in the nursing parent's blood. As alcohol leaves the bloodstream, it also leaves breastmilk, so there is rarely a need to pump and dump.]

I wrote another blog post, please have a look and learn. This time about the timeline and practitioners involved in an Integrated Approach to Tongue Tie. It's not "just a snip" and all is well. As an IBCLC, I do recommend the procedure to clients so I am not pro or against, but it must be approached in context. https://www.mothersmilknj.com/blog/tongue-tie-integrated-care-standards

This came up today and it's a topic near and dear to my heart. What are your exercise and breastfeeding questions? Movement is KEY to so many positive health outcomes. I would encourage every parent to have a movement practice especially when you are producing human milk from your own body. What have you been told about breastfeeding and exercise?

Training for functional movement so that everyday movement is easier is great in the year post birth. Pushing strollers, lifting children and even rolling over in bed are all functional movements...

CALLING POSTPARTUM MOMS❗️

Hey mamas, I know we haven’t put a lot of content out on postpartum. & I had been SO focused on prenatal education & prepping mamas for birthing in this crazy year! It was a lot!!!

But, I have some persistent postpartum mamas 😉 who mentioned that they’re frustrated from the past year, have gained a bunch of weight and aren’t really sure how to workout safely or they’re just not motivated doing it alone.....I’m happy to share, we hear you!👂

Starting in a couple weeks, I’ll be leading a small group of mamas through postpartum training & rehabilitation.

Think SWEAT SESSION + strength work + rehab

This is an 8 week virtual pilot program that includes 2-3 workouts per week, plus 1 check-in. I just confirmed another 2 spots and only have limited seats available - I even hesitated posting because I want to keep it Intimate. Why? Because I am basically your personal trainer for 8 weeks and I REALLY want you to hit your goals, get some great workouts in, dial in on nutrition, but also be encouraged within a small group setting. I find that small groups are so motivating and get the best results.

If you’re interested, DM me & let’s set up a time to talk!! 🤳

Cheers to all the mamas out there who are making it work! Keep going 💛

IF IT HURTS, IT'S NOT RIGHT

Ni**le pain in a breastfeeding mother is common but not normal. It often happens when mothers first start breastfeeding and is usually due to a baby not attaching deeply. This video shows how ni**le pain happens and what a mother can do to help herself. About the Breastfeeding Series »

This is what progress looks like. Babies and ourselves can change over time but it’s not a straight upwards trajectory. There are plateaus and there are dips or regressions. Development is not a straight line upwards it’s a series of small events that lead to a different place.

Every time I teach this to someone I apologize for the system that mother nature came up with. 😂However, that early new bonding that is super intense sets the stage for as much breast-feeding as you want in the first years. Making a plan around the fourth trimester makes accomplishing this round the clock lifestyle attainable.
