Our Annual Spring Appeal is active now through June 10. This year our theme is "COURAGE", honoring our staff who are often faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles traveling to our clinics to provide essential care to others.

Courage is found in the Haitian men, women, and children who attempt to create a semblance of normalcy for their families, seeking care in the midst of an extreme humanitarian crisis.

And courage is found in you, our supporters here in the US, who continue to help us accomplish our work in Haiti.

Our Story

The Lamp operates a primary and urgent health care center in the heart of the Cite Soleil shantytown, just outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The full-service center is staffed by paid, professional health team members, all Haitian, including three physicians. We are open 5 days per week, year-round, to ensure access to medical care for a community in need. Special programs include pediatrics, a women's health clinic, a child nutrition program, x-ray facilities, an on-site pharmacy and laboratory, and school sponsorships in the community. Patients are asked to pay 10HTG (approx. 10 cents) per consultation, and all lab work, medicine and other services are provided free of charge. The Lamp is an oasis of care in an extremely harsh environment. Many residents in Cite Soleil live on 50 cents a day and otherwise would have little access to health care.
