It’s been over a decade that I’ve been teaching parents how to start solids with their little ones and I gotta say, it’s still my FAVORITE thing to teach about! Parents have so many great questions and show up with mixed emotions of excitement and nerves about this upcoming milestone with their child, but leave feeling motivated and empowered!! 🤩💪

If you or someone you know has had a baby in the last 6 months, this workshop is the perfect start to a lifetime of healthy feeding habits! Check out the link in my bio for Thursday’s upcoming workshop if you’re in the local north Jersey area, or if you can’t make it live, my prerecorded virtual format of the class is available for purchase on my website. 💻

🗣️Here’s a quick review from a former Baby’s First Foods attendee:

“I learned so much from “Baby’s First Foods” class! I was surprised at how very fascinating and captivating the entire class was and how many of the things I thought I knew about feeding were I accurate. What an interesting and informative class taught by a very intelligent, knowledgeable, and personable lady! Thanks Caitlin!” — Lisa

Hope to see some of you on Thursday at ! 👩🏻‍🏫

*If your kid wasn’t able to see very well, would you get professional help? 🤓
*What if they weren’t feeling well for months, would you see a trained doctor for guidance? 😷
*Or what if they continued to struggle for over a year to learn academically, whether it’s the ABC’s, reading, or even math, would you find a qualified tutor or seek extra help from their teacher? 📚

OR WOULD YOU JUST ASK FOR HELP ON A PARENT FB GROUP? 💻

My guess is you’d find the expert in that area, and get the right help!! So, can someone PLEASE tell me why parents hope to solve their kid’s eating issues by taking advice from a stranger on FB?

Asking for referrals or searching for actual resources on social media is a wonderful tool, but let’s try to remember that kids who struggle with food will likely need more than the support from a well meaning parent who says “my kid ate only Cheerios all day for years, why not let your kid do the same?” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Comment below if you agree, and please reach out for real support if you’re struggling. There are so many amazing and highly trained dietitians, speech pathologists, mental health therapists, occupational therapists, etc that have spent their career dedicated to helping kids learn how to overcome feeding battles!

Don’t be fooled: This handSOME little guy has turned out to be quite the handFUL in his first few months of life! Apparently he never got the memo on being the “easy one” this third time around but he does a stellar job at being cute and making all the other worries melt away.🥰

I’ll spare you the details of *all* the little obstacles we’ve encountered and speak specifically to the one that hit home the hardest. I am a firm believer that the universe sends us unique experiences from which we are meant to learn certain lessons. As a pediatric dietitian, I regularly help parents of children struggling with growth but NEVER did I think I’d become one! And especially not with my THIRD kid.
I mean that sort of thing wouldn’t happen to an expert, right? WRONG!

Turns out even someone that specializes in infant and child nutrition can end up with a baby struggling to feed. You can imagine my utter shock and pure disbelief at the idea of my baby somehow not being properly nourished, and then BOOM I have a whole new deeper understanding of what so many of my clients feel for the weeks (and for most, months and years) that follow that realization: pure stress!😣

“Oh he is eating his fists again, he must be hungry!” “He only napped 25 mins, he must be hungry!” “He is getting a little fussy, he must be hungry!” And so forth and so on until you are trying to solve every problem with food and spend the whole day in constant state of worry!

However I am very fortunate to have a dietitian brain to go along with my mom brain that helps me stay rational and remember some key aspects to solving this problem; shared below in case you might relate to feeling an ongoing sense of worry about your child’s eating or growth:

-STAY CALM; stress only makes it worse whether it’s affecting your milk production, or just transferring that energy to your little one at meal times🧘🏻‍♀️

-DON’T OBSESS over every feeding/calorie/ounce gained; nothing is made or broken by one feeding/meal🍼

-you can not control their intake; it is only YOUR job to offer the milk/food and their job to consume (assuming no underlying issue is present)⚖️

-GET HELP: even experts need experts sometimes! 🤓

Honored to be interviewed for this podcast and hope my words of advice will help many of you!!!

Hey everyone! 👋 Just wanted to quickly announce the arrival of my third baby boy (shout out to all the other who can relate) who will be taking up all my time and focus for the next few weeks making my time for work and on social media limited.🙃

You can still send me a direct message or an email, or even book a time for us to chat next month using the link in my bio, but please expect delays in my response time as I SNUGGLE the crap out of this delicious thing!👶🏽

PS- delivering at meant a return to home only a few hours post delivery and the opportunity to recover at home in the comfort of my own bed with my other beautiful boys at my side; see pic. A silver lining to birthing amidst a pandemic if you ask me! 🤗
