Father’s Day at Soul Purpose Sundays was small but sacred. Just my sister, her friend, and me—sharing breath, stillness, and deep love.

We meditated, honored the masculine in all its forms, and created a quiet moment of healing together. Afterward, we shared Thai food and laughter. It was simple, soulful, and exactly what it needed to be.

Sistas gonna work it out! Can you imagine being part of a women’s writing group in 1977 that included Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Ntozake Shange, June Jordan Lori Sharp, and Audrey Edwards?

This image captures these sistas together in Walker’s apartment on Garfield Place for a black women’s writing group. Poet Patricia Spears Jones was also part of the group. The hanging photo on the wall is of Bessie Smith.

Let’s look at a little context here. In 1977, Alice Walker had just published Meridian, and was a few years away from The Color Purple. Toni Morrison won the National Book Critics Circle award for Song of Solomon; she’d also already published The Bluest Eye and Sula. In 1977, June Jordan published Things That I Do in the Dark: Selected Poems, 1954–1977. Ntozake Shange was two years past having seen her poetic play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Su***de / When the Rainbow is Enuf nominated for Tony, Grammy, and Emmy awards. Her play A Photograph: Lovers-in-Motion was about to debut off-Broadway. Audrey Edwards was writing biographies for young people on the likes of Stevie Wonder and Muhammad Ali. Info by Isak

Man listen …. IYKYK … I ain’t gonna lie this is the first time I’ve ever invested my time into TikTok story because it was eye opening and therapeutic… quotes and things I took away from this!!!!! “If I had only knew the creature I was laying next to in the bed every night” , “ I wanted it to be my turn” , “If my family would’ve said something I wouldn’t have listened”….”I chose to ignore the red flags” we all have a story and the similarities in hers is something my heart breaks about …. There are tons of people on this earth who struggle to love themselves based on the expectation of what they think love and relationships really and truly are. They just want it to be their turn to have “the dream” …I’m glad she got out and I’m glad I did too❤️ I’m glad any of us who went through similar things have hopefully made it through and gotten over. But on another note…. I am making my first public batch of Tie breaking bath….more to come inbox me for details
