Hope everyone is staying safe during the snow and ice! ❄️
I know missing training sessions is a bummer—but let’s be honest, shoveling probably turned into an unexpected workout anyway 😅

If you’re feeling sore or exhausted from shoveling, slipping around, or just being cooped up inside, that’s completely normal. Your body took on more than it’s used to, so give it a little extra care this week.

Here’s a guided stretching video I often recommend to my clients to help ease back pain and stiffness—perfect for some gentle recovery.

These gentle lower back stretches reduce back stiffness and improve spinal flexibility. This Physiotherapist guided stretching routine includes stretches for...

Today’s food culture makes it incredibly hard to honor fat’s role in the body. Ultra-processed foods are engineered to override hunger cues, spike cravings, and keep us reaching for more—not because you lack willpower, but because the system is designed that way.

That said, awareness is only step one. Once we understand what’s happening, we also have a responsibility to practice discipline and make better choices—ones that support our health instead of working against it.

This 12-minute video breaks down:
• the real role fat plays in the body
• why modern foods are so hard to resist
• and how to approach nutrition with both compassion and intention

Worth the watch if you’re tired of extremes and ready for informed, sustainable choices. 🎥💡

1. Squats- SO MANY VARIATIONS to try make this exercise possible even for beginners and those with “bad” knees.
2. Deadlifts- Extremely functional!
3. Push-ups (traditional push-ups are going to be too challenging for most, start with planks and chest press)
4. Rows (you all know I love back exercises!)

Weight training in your 40s isn’t just about building muscle; it’s about protecting your bones and staying independent for decades to come.

These are the exercises to prioritise if you’re new to strength training in your 40s, according to a PT.

A conversation with two of my clients yesterday sparked some research on water filtration—curious what your current process is, if any.

Here’s what I’ve learned after researching different water filtration and purification methods:

Boiling water reduces bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause health concerns. While most tap water is technically safe, I try to minimize exposure where I can due to my weaker immune system—which is what originally led me to start boiling my drinking water.

Boiling water is not the same as distillation, so it doesn’t remove naturally occurring minerals (which was a concern of mine at first). Distillation also removes sediment, whereas boiling does not.

That brings me to filtering.

-A Brita filter helps remove sediment and chlorine (which my tap water is high in) and noticeably improves taste.

-The EHM alkalizing filter adds calcium and magnesium—both important for bone health—and raises the pH. There’s limited research supporting claims about alkalized water reducing inflammation or cancer risk, but I did recently take a class that discussed how certain foods can acidify or neutralize the body, which made this interesting to explore.

So for now, I’m sticking with my current process:
• boiling water to reduce bacteria while keeping minerals
• filtering it afterward to remove sediment and add calcium and magnesium

Is this system strictly necessary? Maybe not. But it’s also not harmful—and I’m comfortable knowing I’m not stripping minerals while taking a few extra steps that feel supportive for my body.

I like researching and refining my habits when it makes sense, so I’m glad this came up yesterday. Share your water filtration process! 😊

Just completed 45 continuing education credits to recertify my ACSM Personal Trainer credential for another 3 years.
Not a single class I hated. Suspicious, honestly.

Also renewed my CPR/AED certification—just in case but please don’t make me use it.
