Have you heard that induction of labor using Pitocin is associated with increased pain levels? There’s a very real reason for that! The natural release of endorphins, the body's inherent painkillers, occurs at a slower rate compared to spontaneous labor. That hormonal dance is lost. This doesn’t mean inductions need to be horrible. We all know sometimes when medically necessary, sometimes babies are safer on the outside than the inside. However understanding the process and advocating for a slow (and steady) induction process can lead to a much more satisfying and healthy birth experience.

"Evidence shows that continuous labor support is one of the most important and basic needs of birthing people. And evidence clearly shows that a doula’s presence improves birth outcomes! Continuous labor support can lower the chances of needing a Cesarean, lower the use of medications for pain relief, and lower the risk of newborns experiencing a low five-minute Apgar score."

In addition to healthier birth outcomes, Doula’s increase parents satisfaction in their birth experience. We do this by validating your feelings, respecting your decisions, paying attention to the details, getting your partner involved and, maybe everyone’s favorite, we’re a form of pain pain relief! There are many reasons to hire a doula and I’m here to help you find yours.

Does your birth place offer water to labor in?

🩵There are many natural ways to relieve labor pain! Dr. Michel Odent has said that “Water immersion is such an effective pain reliever in labor, that if it were a drug, it would be immoral not to offer it!”💧

🩵Another effective trick at home is to use the shower wand if you have one, or an old Tupperware pitcher to just scoop and pour water over the belly during contractions.💧

🩵What water tricks have you used?💧

New Jersey has some amazing Perinatal professionals. But this group right here have been each others Doula life line. We back each-other up when births collide or, someone gets sick. We work together to navigate the predictably unpredictable landscape that is Birth work. We celebrate our clients births and, grieve together when the journey is less than ideal. Every single Doula in this photo is wildly passionate about the work we do. To spend an afternoon breaking bread, laughing and sitting in the company of others who just get the life we live was so great for my soul. We missed Labour Day Doula Lynn and Mamma Mia Doula Anne but, babies gotta be born! Held Massage Therapy Jess Larsen, MommaArts with Kim Collins DoulaMomma, Kelli DeFlora Montclair B.A.B.Y., Britt Sando at Hummingbird Doulas , Renee Miller Hennings Daylily Doula Service, Jill Gerken Wodnick of Speaking of Birth
