Yoga Mechanics Reclaim Movement. Recognize Connection. We start from the premise that Yoga should be accessible and relevant. Health begins one movement at a time. Let's do it.

Yoga Mechanics teaches alignment yoga based on the foundations of anatomy and biomechanics. Each class is approachable and challenging all in one. We aim to educate you about your body and empower you through action. Our classes are woven with rich and contemplative content that draws you deeper into the physical practice. We hold a healthy space for you to consider your body and mind through a physical practice. Yoga is for anyBody and the application for each individual WILL be different. Our staff is highly trained to facilitate movement in your body, encouraging both strength and flexibility.

“The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.” — Ferdinand Foch

Welcome to week 7 of our elemental energy summer challenge! We’re back with Fire, a return to the element that fuels transformation.

Fire brings heat and light, yes, and it can also bring clarity. It sharpens, refines, and reveals. Fire doesn’t just energize us. It calls for focus. For steady effort. For courage in the face of discomfort.

This week of the challenge, let your focus be the flame.

What are you stoking right now?
What are you willing to release?

Your focus is fuel.
Your effort is the spark.
Your attention is what helps turn it into something meaningful.

Consider how Shiva is often depicted as the destroyer, but not solely in the way we tend to think of destruction. Shiva clears space. He dismantles what is no longer needed so something new can emerge. When we move with Fire, we connect to this process. We transform.

Mini Practice Tip:
Flame Focus - While in a pose (like Warrior II or High Lunge), pick one unmoving spot to fix your gaze. Hold that focus. Let it steady you as your body builds heat.

“The Earth is not a place to escape from, but a place to return to.” Thích Nhất Hạnh

This week, we return to the element of Earth. Not starting over, but beginning again.

What brings you back to Earth?

In this second round through the elements, Earth reminds us that practice is recursive. We begin again, but not from scratch. We return with experience. With breath. With memory in the body.

This week is about grounding, about returning to what steadies you.
It’s about the basics, the quiet power in the familiar, the strength in repetition.

Root in what supports you.
Settle into what’s true.
Let the ground hold you so you can remember what you’re made of.
Let your practice be less about progress and more about presence.
Let your body be enough, just as it is today.
Let the Earth be your teacher, showing up in quiet ways, reminding you that being is already plenty.

You are never not connected to the ground beneath you.

Mini Practice Tip:
Lie down and feel the full length of your body against the floor. Take three slow breaths. Let your body be heavy. Let gravity do the work. No agenda. Just land.

Week 5 of our summer challenge has us turning to the element of air. This week, let your breath be both anchor and exchange. Let it steady you and remind you that something is always moving, always offering, always returning, always beginning again.

Breath is movement and stillness. It is the current that carries us through beginnings, continuations, and endings. It is the pause before, the space in between, and the landing that follows. The soft, messy, or unexpected return is part of the rhythm.

Breath asks for nothing. And when we notice it, we find ourselves as we are in that moment. It brings us back into our bodies. It reminds us of what is real.

Paying attention to your breath does not require control over it.

In fact, your breath has always known what to do. Our work? It is simply to listen.

Mini Practice Tip:
Before or after class, sit or stand in stillness. Close your eyes. Notice where your breath moves in your body. Try not to change it. Just observe. Feel the inhale expand. The exhale soften. Let your breath show you what is already present.

Week 4, we step into Space. How can curiosity and imagination inform your life this week?

Pause in the vastness that holds it all. Space surrounds and supports every element. It invites us in, offers room to explore, and opens the door to possibility. It gives us room to shift, soften, play, and observe.

There is something powerful about allowing yourself to be curious. To notice the familiar in a new way. To enter movement or stillness with a sense of wonder, rather than expectation. With curiosity by your side, you can step into the unknown. Respect your boundaries, trust your inner knowing, and let whatever is emerging have space to breathe. Be willing to meet yourself, not as you were yesterday, but as you are right now.

Mini Practice Tip:
Next time you step onto your mat, pause before you begin. Without needing to change anything, notice the space around you and the space within you. Take three breaths as you are. Let your practice unfold from that place of quiet noticing.

Week 3 summer challenge check-in: What does flow mean to you right now?

Water speaks to the cycles we move through. From Parvati’s mountain spring to Sarasvati’s river to Kali’s deep ocean pull, movement, rest, and renewal flow into one another. Notice how you move: through your practice, through change, through your own rhythms.

Let this week be an invitation to ride the currents of your own rhythm. To notice where you’re carried, where you let go, and where you feel called to rise. And when the waters rage, when emotion swells or anger stirs, see if that, too, can be energy worth listening to. Not something to drown in, but something to move with. To move through.

Mini practice tip:
Try Dirga Pranayama, or three-part breath. Inhale slowly into your belly, then your ribs, then your chest. Exhale in reverse, like a wave. Try this for 3 rounds. Then 5? Notice how even within structure and stillness, there is movement. Let your breath show you how to flow without force, how to listen to your inner knowing.

There’s still time to join the Elemental Energy Challenge! pledge to complete 15, 30, or 45 classes by August 22

Week 2: Fire - Energy Meets Action

“Your spark doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.” Unknown

Summer is warming up (quite a bit, yeah?) and your practice might, too. Fire offers fuel for change, for movement, and for meaningful effort. What does the fire element spark in you? Energy? Determination? That last push to keep going, even when things get a little sweaty?

Whether on or off the mat, fire shows up in how you meet the moment, whether through strong shapes and dynamic movement, or choosing to stay present, to return, to take action.

Remember that your energy matters. Let it move with intention, breathe with rhythm, and stay steady in its own way.

Mini Practice Tip:

Before you practice, take a few rounds of strong, intentional breath. Inhale through your nose and exhale with a sharp breath out your mouth. Add a few shoulder rolls or standing twists to wake up your spine. Let your energy rise without rushing. Let it build from within.
