𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Our bodies still need to move to stay healthy, but for many of us movement is a means to an end. Does your typical daily movement consist of moving from sleeping to sitting in a car to sitting at work, to sitting in the car, to sitting at home or a restaurant, and laying back down again for bed? All that sitting contributes to postural issues, aches and pains, low energy and concerns about getting hurt when you even think about doing more. Movement should be more fun, and when you're having fun it's more sustainable and easier to be consistent with. We at The New Basis want to help you lead a life where you can do the activities you like and supplement with what you need to keep your body and mind as healthy as possible! The weather is changing!!!! 😊 🍂🍃🍁🍃🍂. And there are so many fun ways to stay fit this Fall!

Here are just 10 suggestions off the top of my head! How many can you add?

1) Rake leaves into a pile and let your kids or grandkids or dogs jump into them

2) Hike through your parks, trails, and nearby hillsides.

3) Toss the football with friends and families.

4) Take the dog on long autumn walks.

5) Start a temporary workout routine to complement what you’re
already doing.

6) Take daily walks, runs or bike rides in the cool, crisp mornings.

7) Visit pumpkin patches, apple orchards, or corn mazes. 😎

8) Sign up for a fall 5K or 10K race.

9) Incorporate movement breaks during commercials and halftimes of football games.

We’re learning more and more all the time about the incredible connections between our brains and our bodies.

We’re seeing that our thoughts really do affect our bodies. Even when we’re not aware of it, our physical self is responding to what it hears from our mental self. 🤯
ㅤㅤ
In other words, your body is listening to you.
ㅤㅤ
So, when you tell yourself, “I can’t do it,” that leads to your shoulders shrugging and your b***y planting itself on the couch.
ㅤㅤ
When you say, “I’ll never be good enough,” your energy plummets.
ㅤㅤ
And when you say, “I’m going to make it happen today,” guess what? YOU DO.
You might even feel a physical charge of determination.
You might start imagining yourself doing your workout – and how proud you’ll feel when you’re done. And it helps!
ㅤㅤ
I’ve even observed this AMAZING phenomenon in clients where their beliefs about what their body can or can’t do becomes their reality.

Wow, it’s been a tough 18 months on everyone, and sometimes it seems like nothing’s going to get better out there. Sometimes.

All over the world and here at home, it seems like people are worn out, stressed, and confused, right? Sometimes it feels like we're the only ones, or that there’s nothing we can do.
ㅤㅤ
But there is always something.
ㅤㅤ
Here's something to consider:
ㅤㅤ
❤ We’ve gotta look out for each other. ❤
ㅤㅤ
Reaching out to help someone else, or even just checking on them with a friendly phone call, immediately lifts you out of your own troubles.
ㅤㅤ
And it instantly makes the world a better place, even if it’s “only” in a small way.
ㅤㅤ
You never know how your moment of kindness will effect the other person, or how they might pay it forward.
ㅤㅤ
So, what else can we do to show up for each other?
ㅤㅤ
💚 Smile, and make the extra effort to be friendly. If you’re wearing a mask that hides a smile, be sure to offer eye contact and a hardy “Hello, how are you?” when you encounter people at the store or on the street.
ㅤㅤ
💙 Donate time, money, goods or services to an agency that helps the less fortunate.
ㅤㅤ
💚 Call a friend or family member each day. It’s been so easy to lose touch lately, right? Make a call and, even if you leave a voice message, it’ll mean more to both of you than just texting.
ㅤㅤ
💙 If you have a neighbor who needs a little extra care, check in and see if you can help with groceries, chores, or just a visit.
ㅤㅤ
💚 Encourage someone to be active, whether it’s a workout buddy who’s feeling blue, or someone who wants to get started. Your example and encouragement will mean a lot. And walks are (most often) easy.
ㅤㅤ
💙Actively listen when someone shares feelings of sadness or frustration. Put away the phone. Look them in the eye. Don’t judge or try to offer easy solutions. Just be there for them.
ㅤㅤ
💚 And of course, physical activity is so important to self-care.
ㅤㅤ

Is it just me, or has this year simultaneously flown by and dragged on forever?

Can't believe we’re heading into October, and about to come face-to-face with the end of the year holiday festivities.

Whatever holidays you personally celebrate, this time of year is usually filled with extra temptations, more obligations, and shorter days (which can feel like less time to get everything done). Fun, right? 🙄

During this time of year, it can feel especially difficult to prioritize your health and fitness.

Even if you’ve been crushing it over the summer, there’s something about fall that makes us want to go into hibernation mode.

And sometime around October or November is usually when I hear people say “screw it! I’ll just start over in January!”

Everybody wants the secret to healthy living, right? Is it a pill? A protein shake? A cleanse?

As if there was actually a magic bullet or missing link!?

Here’s the secret: Remembering your "why".

Look, even the Most Dedicated Human Ever is going to have days when she just doesn’t feel like working out, eating right, and achieving the other daily tasks she has chosen to reach her goals.

So, when you’re searching for enthusiasm to take the next step, here’s what you do. You remember your "why" – the reason why you wanted to start this journey in the first place.

Maybe you wanted to lose weight, keep up with the kids, or compete in an event – or any number of other awesome reasons.

It doesn’t matter what your "why" is. It only matters that YOU remember your "why" if you want to make progress on your journey . . .

if you want to reach your goal more than you want to stay on the couch...

if you want to feel better, look better and move better more than you want to revert to old habits . . .

if you want to realize the positive future you’ve chosen for yourself more than dwelling in the cave of regret . . .

Make a note of your primary motivation. Or write it down on a post-it note where you’ll see it every day. Include it in your daily meditation.

Just remember your WHY.

Let's be honest: most of us have bad posture.

We spend so much of our days sitting in the car, hunched over a computer at our desk, scrolling through our phones, or juggling a million different things that put strain on our bodies. And this strain shows up in the way we generally feel and move every day.
