we need more empathy, patience, and understanding in this world.
we need less bigotry, intolerance, and hate in this world.
when trans rights are under attack, we must always fight back. if trans folks genuinely say something is transphobic, most likely it is. i respectfully ask to come from a place of curiosity, not defensiveness. for allies, what privileges do you carry and are you willing to leverage it to help defend the safety of trans folks? for others still learning (and that’s okay), where is your discomfort stemming from? what brings you to attribute transphobia to an issue of communication, but not systemic oppression? disagreements are for coffee vs tea, not whether gender-affirming care is necessary or not because people’s lives are at stake when depression, anxiety, and su***de rates are high. for example, reinforcing someone’s agency by calling them the correct name and pronouns is proven to reduce suicidal behaviors by over 60% alone (, 2025).
when another anti-trans policy is passed, it is unrealistic to focus merely on coping skills. as a therapist with a social work lens, addressing systems of oppression is key to healing, empowerment, and community-building. for us q***r filipinx/a/os across the diaspora, this looks like kapwa (or shared inner self) as we navigate the -ism’s daily.
for cis folks, remember there is no neutrality in times of injustice. so what side of history will you stand on? because at the end of the day, trans rights are human rights, and there is plenty of love and care to spread around. ingat lagi. 🏳️⚧️💞
