The summer solstice 🌞 is upon us for those of us in the western hemisphere, which brings up a specific question for me- So what?
Or, to put it more thoughtfully, what does the summer solstice mean to me in this modern era?
I know that when it comes to things like the solstices, full moons, equinoxes, eclipses, etc, many people turn to the internet to try to research the spiritual significance of such events. There is nothing wrong with that… I’ve turned to external resources many times in that way. However, I’ve found that I feel much more connected to the cycles of nature when I contemplate them for myself. I ask myself questions like:
☀️What actually is happening in the natural world that brings about this event?
☀️What is moving into balance? What is becoming unbalanced? ☀️What is shifting or stabilizing?
☀️How does this event truly impact and resonate with me?
☀️What does this time of year mean to me?
☀️What is being called forward in this time for me?
☀️How does this event mirror my own personal cycle?
When I contemplate these questions for the upcoming solstice, here is what comes to me…
The summer solstice marks the day with the longest amount of daylight in the year. A celebration of Sun! That means that each day after the summer solstice, the days will get slightly shorter and shorter…
For me this year, it feels that my practice is to invite the energy and fire 🔥of Sun into my internal world. To “internalize the light”, so that Sun can continue to fuel me even as Sun’s presence wanes. I am in a phase of action, and it would help me to have the Sun’s medicine supporting me. I can feel that this is what is true for me, and I am grateful 🙏to receive and celebrate the medicine of Sun during solstice!
If this makes sense to you, I invite you to approach the solstice in a similar way- by reflecting on some of those (or similar) questions and discovering how you are being called (or not being called) to acknowledge this time of year.
Blessings! 💗
