Our Story
Harmony Place in Monterey is a one-of-a-kind outpatient alternative to residential care and is specifically designed as an intensive, three hours per day Outpatient Program or as a six hours per day Partial Hospitalization Program. Harmony Place offers a unique set of treatment programs for difficult-to-treat addictive disorders and mental health issues. If you continue to relapse despite having gone to treatment in the past, then Harmony Place Monterey is the place for you.
Harmony Place Monterey offers comfortable and serene housing in addition to extraordinary, life-changing programming. Our treatment approaches address and relieve addictive behaviors, including intimacy the intimacy and attachment disorders often associated with eating disorders, chemical dependency, co-dependency, sexual and relational difficulties, and chronic relapse.
Our therapies dig to the bottom of onerous issues that can continue to sabotage recovery and long-term success. We specialize in moving our clients securely out of addiction into a new way of being, far beyond the fear of slipping back.

THE CO-THERAPY TEAM and DIRECTORS
Meet Mark Schwartz, Sc.D. and Lori Galperin, LCSW who direct the Harmony Place Monterey team of specialists. With more than 30 years of experience, they have each worked with hundreds of individuals and couples to heal from deep, chronic and debilitating issues.
These nationally recognized leaders have lectured to more than 50,000 worldwide professionals and have directed five residential and inpatient treatment programs in cities across the United States, including St. Louis, Missouri; New Orleans, Louisiana; Los Angeles, CA; and Kansas City, Kansas.
Both Dr. Schwartz and Ms. Galperin work with each of the intensive outpatient clients daily.
Dr. Schwartz and Lori Galperin co-directed Castlewood Treatment Center and Monarch Cove Treatment Center, specializing in Eating Disorders, for many years.
They also founded Masters & Johnson Trauma and Compulsivity Programs in St. Louis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and New Orleans prior to that.
They have both lectured internationally and have written multiple papers and textbook chapters on the subject of addiction. They have worked directly with hundreds of clients and are experienced with the most difficult-to-treat relapse situations.
Schwartz and Galperin also specialize in trauma-based disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as complex trauma. They are experts working with intimacy disorders and attachment issues, much of which is often attributed to being the original cause of addictive disorders and the need to self-medicate.
