A busy start to my week!

A beautiful baby boy was welcomed into the arms of his amazing mom in the wee hours of this morning! 💙

I made it home around 5:00am and slept til 1:00! A huge thanks to my husband and baby sitter for making that possible 🥹 I’m always tempted to just push through the day after a birth, but I want longevity in this field so I’m learning to sleep when I can!

After catching up on sleep I headed out for a contract signing and an afternoon of massage appointments ❤️

The rest of this week will be home visits, prepping for the childbirth education class on Friday, and waiting on one more April baby 💛

At work enjoying my first cup of hot coffee in about a week 😂

Catching up on some admin in between appointments and getting the word out about our next CBE class coming up! (Starts April 10th btw 😉)

I didn’t have the heart to tell my boys where that ball has been…even if Anna did think we should tell them 😂

The peanut ball, one of my favorite (and probably most used) birth tool!

Don’t know what that is? Interested in learning how to use it? I’m so glad you asked!!

✨This is an excellent tool for allowing moms to labor down

✨It can be used to open the pelvis for baby while mom rests in early labor.

✨Malpositioned baby? I’m pulling out the peanut ball!

I think I have used this at every birth in the last year!

Want to learn more about this and other birth tools? Check out and register for one of our upcoming classes! We still have a few spaces in April and June’s classes!

Side note - Don’t worry, the peanut ball was sanitized and all birth evidence was removed from the ball before it was brought into my house 😂

Also, please ignore how rough I look, this is the reality of three kids and birth work, I haven’t had enough sleep in the last six years! 😂😂

And my second lovey completed for the night!

I really enjoyed hanging with friends and crafting this evening, it always makes the process better 😊

Now I’m off to bed because I’ve got to wrangle three children on my own tomorrow. The goal, arrive at church (semi) on time and not looking feral 😂

Another bear done for a sweet baby girl! ❤️

This baby had a strawberry theme so I tried to add some cute details to go along with that!

The end of my year was pretty crazy so I’m quite a few bears behind 😬 But I love making these for my mamas and babies! A reminder that I will always be there ❤️

Finding the upside in day 6 of disease invading my house ❤️

The coffee is cold, I had to cancel a full clinic day, my husband is leaving for a 10 day work trip 😮‍💨

It’s easy to lose sight of the point in the frustrations of this life.

But this 👆right here is the whole point

I don’t own my own business so I can work endless hours and make a ton of money.

I own my own business because I know I am called to birth work and supporting women ✨BUT✨ I am called first to my home 🏠

This looks different for every family, but for mine that looks like working one clinic day a week and canceling it if my babies are sick.

This isn’t the way I’m going to grow my business to the biggest it can be, and that’s ok, that’s not the season for me right now 😊 Right now is the season for my babies and supporting the women I can in the capacity I can ❤️

Things may change soon, I’ve been having some talks with God about some open doors…but that’s not today.

So today I’m gonna drink my cold coffee while she sleeps knowing there is nowhere else I need to be ❤️

Welcome baby 🩷

It is always amazing to see the strength of a mother bringing her baby into the world! And I love watching a supportive husband there with her every step of the way!

I truly mean it when I say, my goal is not to replace dads in the birth space, but to help mom and dad work together during the birth of their baby ❤️

After a sleepless night, I made a quick trip up to Nashville 🤪 to pick up some friends from the airport, and now I’m home, showered, and ready to sleep…before I head back out for a prenatal this afternoon 😂

Someone send coffee please! 😜

Life as a mom and doula means being really flexible lol 😂

What I planned for my day to look like:
- Church
- Clean up the house to prep for out of town guests
- Bible study this evening with my D-Group

What it’s turning into
- Early morning conversation with a mom in early labor
- Late to church 😬
- Two year old fell off his bike and injured himself and is now contact napping
- Continued virtual support of laboring mama until she needs me
- House is still a mess, who knows if I’ll make it to my D-Group tonight 😂

And that’s ok, I’m so thankful for family and friends who understand the nature of my work! It’s apparently a day to snuggle my baby and support mamas instead of cleaning my house ❤️

Very well put!

Very well put!

“But women have been having babies for thousands of years. The process hasn’t changed.”

This thought process isn’t wrong. But things do change!

Maybe not the overall process of birth, but the options, providers, policies, and cultural norms around birth absolutely change.

What changes am I referring to?

Let me just share some of the things that have changed in the SIX very short years since I had my last baby.

Locally:
• The number of available home birth midwives has increased
• The number of doulas has increased
• More options for childbirth education classes have become available
• OBGYN Associates became Diana Health (and added more providers)
• CRMC now offers nitrous oxide for pain management in labor
• The number of events held for expectant & new parents has increased
• There is now a maternity clinic operated by Upper Cumberland Midwifery Services, LLC
• A doula collective now exists - Birth Connections of the Upper Cumberland
• We now have a local 3D ultrasound studio - Sweet Baby Imaging of TN
• More women are requesting Doulas be at their births
• And more…

Nationwide
(Nothing listed here is a recommendation for or against anything, simply examples of some changes.):

• The U.S. C-section rate increased slightly in recent years
• The percentage of baby boys being circumcised has dropped to under 50%
• More hospitals are shifting toward rooming babies in with their mothers instead of using the nursery
• The “Golden Hour” after birth has become much more mainstream in hospitals
• Low-dose baby aspirin is being recommended more often during pregnancy for certain risk factors
• The ARRIVE Trial changed many conversations around elective 39-week inductions (this study came out in 2018 but really started being implemented after 2020)

And this really just scratches the surface of the changes.

Birth itself may be ancient… but the systems surrounding it are constantly evolving.

Which is exactly why staying informed, and building the right support team matters.
