Throughout history, the greatest leaps in art and literature rarely occurred in isolation. The vibrant discourse within writer communities—salons, circles, and workshops—has been the birthplace of revolutionary ideas and celebrated works. Consider the legendary gatherings at Gertrude Stein's Parisian salon, where figures like Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald debated literature and shared their writings, or the Bloomsbury Group in London, which included Virginia Woolf and E.M. Forster, fostering an environment of mutual inspiration and critique that shaped modernist literature. The Harlem Renaissance that produced writers, poets, and artists like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Claude McKay included salons and meetings at libraries where intellectuals and artists could discuss ideas, share their works, and receive feedback.
These historical examples underline a powerful truth: big ideas and lofty goals usually unfold through rich discourse and collaborative challenge. It's like winning the lottery when you find even one other person who not only shares your passion for the written word but is also willing to engage deeply with your work and offer meaningful feedback.
However, maintaining such a group is no small feat. All too often, even the most passionate gatherings can unravel due to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, or life's relentless demands, leaving months to pass without progress on cherished projects.
This is where the importance of a skilled facilitator comes into play. For over ten years, my writing groups have thrived under careful guidance, providing a consistent, nurturing environment designed to keep discussions on track and deeply focused on improving our craft. My role is to ensure that feedback remains constructive and that every session harnesses our collective expertise to foster personal growth, creativity, and justice.
I'm pleased to announce that new 8-week sessions for our celebrated writers' groups are beginning soon on August 20 and August 21. These groups are not just about writing—they are about creating a community where each member is supported and valued.

I'm going to send this out to my email list but always love to give my friends on here the chance to enroll first. The next session of my weekly feedback groups begins June 19, 2024. There's one space available in the Tuesday group and two spaces available in the Wednesday. Summer is a great time to reinvest in your creativity, connect with people who love writing as much as you, and get valuable feedback to keep you going on your writing projects for the rest of the year.

I offer weekly feedback groups as a space for writers of all levels, whether you're a seasoned professional looking to refine your craft or someone new to writing who is eager to use writing as a tool for personal transformation. My aim is to foster a community where every participant feels supported in exploring their creativity and tapping into what truly matters to them, while honing their writing skills.
As a teacher and a coach, I am dedicated to transforming the culture of writing, moving it away from the stereotype of the solitary, neurotic writer and toward one of connection, support, and collective witness. In my groups, while we focus on refining the craft of writing, what truly matters is that participants find a sanctuary—a place they eagerly anticipate being in each week. Here, writers don't just have confidence in their abilities; they spend time every week celebrating their peers' brilliance and cheering them on.
I firmly believe that the most effective way to enhance one's communication skills in writing is by recognizing and celebrating the strengths in both our own writing and the writing of others. Gone are the days when writers had to subject themselves to harsh criticism to gain command over their craft. Instead, we learn and grow through admiration, encouragement, and collective witnessing.
While my groups are not explicitly therapeutic, they serve as fertile ground for growth, healing, self-challenge, radical vulnerability, and self-empowerment. Writing is a potent tool, and mastering it requires dedication and effort, but it does not have to occur in critical or isolating environments.
For over a decade I have seen members of my feedback groups blossom, honoring their unique voices, embracing creative risks, and thriving, not only in their writing endeavors but also in their lives as a whole. Yes, we are serious about crafting the best stories, poems, and essays possible, but at our core, we are a community—a collective of individuals who support each other and are committed to the journey of becoming more fully and boldly ourselves.
Here are the dates for the next session:
Tuesday:
March 26,
April 09, 16, 23, 30,
May 07, 14, 28

Wednesday:
March 27,
April 10, 17, 24,
May 01, 08, 15, 29

I am offering these spaces on a first come first serve basis. If you click the link and the class is full please join my waiting list. New sessions start every eight weeks and we’ll contact you first when spaces become available.

Whether you’re just starting a writing practice or are a seasoned writer completing larger projects, this class will aid you in developing your unique voice, generating more material, and strengthening your craft.
