We're OK (so far)! We're relieved to say we've been extremely fortunate (and lucky) that we've avoided the worst outcomes of the onslaught of atmospheric rivers and wind storms impacting Washington state. This might be, in part, from a lot of work that has taken place in our county for flood mitigation, and the water has more places to flow before it reaches us. That said, our property is in a 100-year flood area and we realize there's always a risk with each system. We appreciate everyone's concern!

The majority of the water fell north of us in the Cascade mountain range, impacting areas from Skagit to Yakima counties, and flooding even hit places that were shocking to hear about, including where we used to live in eastern Washington.

We experienced normal flooding that we anticipate every year, and we had all our horses on high ground. The wind and rain were fierce, however, running "uphill" on the barn roof, finding places to drip through. Thankfully we hadn't yet received a new hay shipment, so no hay was damaged. Our feral kittens are also OK!

Oh no. What's happening? We've sold Moonstone to a family for a little girl's birthday present today. We never really intended to sell her, but selling her to a home that's truly excited to get her is a consolation.
The funds from her sale will help us pay to get Fizzy back home. That fundraiser is still ongoing, as the need hasn't ended. But what about the future of Little Hooves?
We still have Princess, Sunny, Dusty, Diadem, and our new c**t Storm. Then of course Leann and Pearl are in the wings as mascots to remind us that even deformities can't get in the way of how much love a mini can give. We are low on the mares, though.

A break in the storms and we got a nice day... here's Moonstone, standing atop a hill, looking down at me. The rain will be returning tomorrow, and back to dark, dank, and dreary little ponies again.

Hey everyone. We know it's been a quiet year here - the year of no foals - so hello again! The biggest news right now is that we set up a new fundraiser. We're trying to pay for the transport of two Caspian mares from Kentucky, which would do two things: 1. Help a Caspian breeder, and 2. Welcome back Fizzlepop Berry Twist (Fizzy!) to our farm—it would be a homecoming! 🩷

Cowgirl is a beautiful mare with a nice temperament, but sadly has produced foals with birth defects (non-dwarfism) and she's now seeking a pet home as we don't want to risk it with breeding her again.

Many of you might remember Little Hooves Blue Baroque Pearl, our 2024 filly born with a leg problem, presenting with "club foot" and refusal to weight the leg. Unfortunately, her problem has not resolved, and it has steadily worsened. Her quad and hind quarter have atrophied. The vet was out today to do x-rays to determine what the issue is. We identified an underdeveloped and deformed stifle joint with an unrecognizable patella. Sadly, her prognosis is not good (there are no knee replacements for horses), and we are preparing ourselves to say goodbye to another filly. What we've faced in the last year with our minis, the heartbreak has been overwhelming.
