Medical bills can add up very quickly. Many people are eligible for Medicaid (Insurance) through the State of Minnesota, and once you have Medicaid (Insurance), it is extremely important that you do what is necessary to renew your benefits when Family Services requests updates, otherwise you will be responsible for paying for your medical bills yourself. If payments for services are not made or a payment plan set up, your account will be turned over to collections, and then your income tax refunds will be used to pay the bills. We want to help you avoid this by getting and keeping the insurance coverage you need.
Some people have had Medicaid (Insurance) for awhile, possibly even years, without having to fill out the paperwork again. This is because during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) suspended their normal procedures for Medicaid (insurance) renewals, a process which requires did not require Medicaid (Insurance) recipients to provide Family Services with proof of things like your income on a regular basis (usually every six-twelve months). For the duration of the pandemic, everyone who was approved for Medicaid coverage was able to keep their coverage without providing income verification.
Now that the pandemic emergency has ended, you will need to complete renewal paperwork. This has resulted in many people’s benefits ending because the correct paperwork was not completed.
We want to help. If you receive a letter from Family Services, please do not ignore it! You can call Family Services (Chippewa County—320-269-6401; Swift County—320-843-3160) and ask for an interpreter (“I need a Chuukese interpreter”). Please note that if you are calling Chippewa County Family Services, an automated system will answer, and you need to press “0” to talk to a person.
If you do not have a phone available, you can also take a photo of the letter and send it to Lisa at CCM Health by clicking the “Message” button at the top of this page, and she will help you figure out what you need to do.
If you do not currently have Medicaid (insurance), you can provide us with the following information for each member of your household, and someone in the billing office can also help you submit your paperwork to Family Services:
• Social Security card
• Passport
• I-94
• Income verification for any household member who is working
Bring all of the above information to either our Montevideo or Milan clinic. Ask for Rob or Tate in the business office in Montevideo, or speak to Lisa at the reception desk in Milan. We will have you sign an application, make copies of your documents, and submit the application for you.
Please click “Message” above if you have any questions. You can write to Lisa in English or Chuukese.
