“That wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.“

Listen. I hear this statement A LOT (seriously all the time) after someone’s first pelvic floor therapy visit.

Honestly, I love to hear it. 🙌

Because truly, I get it. I know what it’s like to be the one walking into your first pelvic floor therapy appointment with NO idea what to expect. 😬

That’s why I love hearing that something that can be seemingly scary, taboo, or intimidating resulted in feeling safe, comfortable, and supported. That’s my goal with this clinic!

Pelvic floor therapy may *seem* scary, but I promise I do everything possible to create a space where you feel comfortable, respected, and secure, so we can get to the root of your symptoms and start healing. 🫶

To the women who ran the Boston Marathon today, congratulations! 🏃‍♀️

It’s hard to watch Boston without remembering the women who made it possible:

In 1966, Bobbi Gibb hid in the bushes near the start because women were not allowed to run. She jumped into the race anyway and finished ahead of many men.

A year later, in 1967, Kathrine Switzer registered using her initials. Mid-race, officials attempted to physically remove her from the course during the now-iconic incident at the Boston Marathon. (Pictured below)

Women weren’t officially allowed to run Boston until 1972. 🤯

Not that long ago, the idea that women were “too fragile” to run distance was widely believed.

But!!!

Today, women run Boston in the THOUSANDS, proving that the female body is capable of strength, power, and incredible endurance.

As someone who works in women’s health and pelvic floor physical therapy, AND LOVES RUNNING, this history matters deeply to me.

For generations, women were told to move less, lift less, run less. Now we know movement, running, lifting, and competing, IS part of women’s health-> and Boston IS possible! 🙌

So today we celebrate every woman toeing the line in Boston.

Because every mile ran today traces back to the women who refused to stay on the sidelines. ✌️🫶💪

In a commitment to this community and motherhood, I am offering a free return to running screen for any moms who sign up for one of the below local 5K’s:

As a doctor of physical therapy and mother of 3 myself, I know the physical, emotional, and mental challenges that can prevent moms from getting back to sport postpartum- especially impact sports like running!
I hope this can add a layer of comfort, community, and safety with returning to running after childbirth, while also promoting two local and very important missions through this running community.

Pending numbers, this will likely be a Monday and/or Saturday clinic at my office location.

Patients ask me all the time: “Do I need a referral to see you?” 🤔

Let’s break it down in the simplest way possible:

👉 In Alabama, you can start physical therapy without a referral. That means you can come straight to me with no doctor visit required first.

BUT if you’re using insurance:
⏱️ There’s a 30-day window or 11-visit limit (whichever comes first).

Now here’s where it matters for how I treat 👇

Because I typically see patients once per week, by the time that 30 days is up we’ve usually only had 3–4 visits.
And let’s be honest, most people need more care than that to fully get better. So right in the middle of your treatment, we’d have to pause and get a referral just to keep going. 👎

💡 That’s why I recommend getting a referral up front if you plan to use insurance:
• Saves time ⏳
• Avoids interruptions ✋
• Keeps us focused on your progress, not paperwork ✅

✨ Cash-based (self-pay) patients: This doesn’t apply. No referral, no limits—full flexibility! 🎉

Bottom line:
I can start treatment without a referral, but for insurance patients, having one from the start makes your care MUCH smoother.

This mama put in the work, and it paid off!! 💪 and we love to hear it!

Did you know pelvic floor therapy before birth can help reduce perineal tearing through interventions like:

• Internal manual work
• Down-training & relaxation techniques
• Breathing + pushing strategies
• Position coaching
• Reducing guarding and tension

Stories like this are why we do what we do. Well done, mama! 💚✨

Today we are talking libido! 🙌

TL;DW

We live in a culture where there’s a HUGE emphasis on desire. A “desire imperative” is the internal belief that “I should feel desire right now” AND that something is wrong if you don’t.

Spontaneous desire - Feels like: “I’m in the mood out of nowhere”

Responsive desire- Feels like: “I wasn’t thinking about s*x, but once we started, I got into it”

Modern research emphasizes that MEN AND WOMEN experience a mix, not just one type. Responsive desire is completely normal and healthy. Especially in long-term partnerships and busy life stages.

Desire is context-dependent, influenced by:
• Stress
• Relationship quality
• Hormones
• Mental load
• Safety and emotional connection

Fun activity for you and/or your partner.
Identify your:

Accelerators = things that turn you on
Brakes = stress, fatigue, anxiety, body image, etc.

Julie Moore here. 🫶

I’m sharing one more half marathon in the books. 🙌 It wasn’t a PR, but I had a lot of personal accomplishments I’m thankful for and proud of. I do not continue to share these runs for personal praise, but to continue to encourage women to pursue anything you can possibly dream of, and to (hopefully) show that that’s possible. 💚

Because as a mom of three, there were seasons during pregnancy and postpartum that I never thought I would return to running or impact activities EVER again. MULTIPLE seasons of pregnancy/postpartum I felt completely lost and so very broken, yet DETERMINED not to stay there. Believing that I could, in fact, heal and continue to do the things I love to do as a woman, a wife and a mother.

Your reason may not be running or a half marathon, but it could be jumping on the trampoline and not leaking urine, cleaning your house without feeling your prolapse, picking up your kid without back pain, doing a sit-up without diastasis recti, completing a yoga class without surprise gas, having mutually pleasurable s*x without pain, going on a trip without urinary urgency, doing ANYTHING without GI symptoms, sitting in a chair without tailbone pain, or simply having ZERO pelvic pain.

And. That’s why I’m here and that’s why I do what I do. I run for me, but I also run to show other women there is hope and there is healing. It’s not instant, it’s not easy, there are ups and downs, it may not look perfect, you may digress, but it is worth it. You are worth the life you want to live. Never give up and never, ever settle.
