Our words and actions matter.
I developed the eating disorder of bulimia in 1978 when my supervisor came in to work to give me an award and he said, “We love the work you do Barbara, thank you, and I can personally tell you love it here too, you’ve gained weight since I met you.”

I was 22 years old, working at a restaurant, and all I heard for weeks in my mind was “you’re too fat and this is why you’re not happy.”

Before you speak, pause and make sure it’s true, kind, and thoughtful.
It can take years to repair the damage from words. 💕
