My prayer is that every woman giving birth is able to hear and listen to the sweet truths birth is whispering to her.

Serving these three was such an honor. Caroline I’m so proud of the way you dug into this journey. From your patience to facing head on the things you needed to and allowed space for it all. Nate served you and Jennings so beautifully every step of the way. And this baby girl is perfect. It was such a privilege to walk beside your family during this transition. 💓

Very proud of these three ❤️ Each birth takes you on a different journey. Each one teaches you something about yourself and one another. I will never quit saying what a complete privilege it is to walk along side families. Stacy, Tad, and Eleanor you three traveled a road your very own to get to this moment and what an honor it was to witness.

What a job well done! Birth takes us on a journey all its own. What a complete honor it was to work along side these three. Kandice and Britton Lily is what dreams are made of! I’m very proud of the each of you. The thing about this line of work is that it brings you to love many precious people and I’m grateful for the three of you.

Informed consent never looks or sounds like something already in motion. Huge red flag. True informed consent takes hold of the concepts of a conversation. One that explains risks and benefits, leaves room for questions and time to consider, and then the decision is up to the client. With the choice of No being a full one.

Walk into a room while I am supporting a birth and you might think that I am just sitting there doing nothing. I won’t be talking. I won’t be touching the client. I won’t be using anything in my bag.

So what am I doing exactly?

🪑 Watching mom’s breathing and sometimes breathing loudly alongside her to remind her to slow down her breath

🪑 Scanning mom’s body during the contraction to make sure that she isn’t holding any tension

🪑 Monitoring the temperature and lighting to create the peaceful environment that she desires

🪑 Calculating how long it has been since she emptied her bladder

🪑 Thinking about how long she has been in her current position and thinking about the next position that she might try

🪑 Timing contractions to see if they are longer, stronger and closer together

🪑 Thinking about when mom and her partner last had a snack

🪑 Reviewing her preferences to make sure that everything is going according to her plan

🪑 Giving the couple space to connect on an intimate level (allowing for oxytocin) and/or guiding the partner to be the lead support

🪑 Updating notes and capturing labor flow

Sometimes just being fully present is enough. Sometimes just knowing I am there in close proximity is all mom needs to be able to relax and focus on what she needs to do. Sometimes just holding space for them in an unbiased manner allows for a noticeable shift in the energy of the room.

As the new year approaches I’m thinking of the families who have allowed me to serve in such a intimate time and planning for the year to come. Life has called my family into a different role this year I wanted to let you know I will be taking 5 births this year. Serving women and their family is truly a gift and could not even consider it a job but a calling. I’m unable to open my books as much as I have done in the past but I do want to serve. 💦During labor, your baby's body releases chemicals to help their lungs push out the fluid.

💦The pressure of the birth canal on your baby's chest also releases fluid from their lungs.

💦After birth, your baby's cough, as well as air filling their lungs,  should expel the remaining amniotic fluid.
