This post and the linked article provide a very interesting perspective on the relationship between early-life aptitude and the eventual development of adult expertise and success in a variety of endeavors, including sport, chess, music, and academia, with potential implications and applications for parents.

If your kid is really gifted and successful in an activity early in life, that’s great! But it is not a predictor of high performance in that activity later in life…in fact, it seems to be associated with a decreased likelihood of expert performance in adulthood. So maybe slow the roll just a bit at times, and introduce some diversity with the extra-curriculars. Perhaps that will decrease the risk of early burnout. And, if your kiddo is pretty average but enjoys exploring activities, support them… you never know what might happen over time!

Normal operations (7am - 6pm) for both clinics (Monticello and McGehee) tomorrow (Thursday, January 28th).

If you can safely get there, we'll be there for you.

The parking lot has been cleared. Not all of the roads have been. We’ll be open Wednesday January 28th from 8am -4pm. If you need valet parking, just pull up to the front door and honk. We’ll take care of you.

We plan to resume normal operations on Wed 1/28.

Due to inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions, our clinics in Monticello and McGehee will be closed all day Monday January 26th and the morning of Tuesday January 27th. We may or may not be open Tuesday afternoon; we'll continue to monitor the weather and road conditions and make that determination later. Be safe.
