In addition to support and treatment, The Center is happy to provide educational resources to our community. This past week, we were honored to once again partner with faculty from Monticello High School to lead a discussion on mental health, how to identify symptoms, and how young people can access support. If you and/or your organization is interested in facilitating a discussion on mental health, substance use, or resources for those with disabilities, please reach out. We have very talented experts on our team who would love to be of service!

Last night our Executive Director and a couple of our CDS Consumers had the opportunity to assist Troop 490 BSA - Monticello, IL in earning their Disability Awareness Merit Badge last night. We spoke about person-first language, clarifying miscommunications about individuals with disabilities, and even provided them with a tour of our facility to see how we serve and support our community. One of the best moments for us was to hear that a lesson learned from the event was, "...to always look for ways we can enhance accessibility for all people." Yesterday was a good day!

We're proud to announce that Governor JB Pritzker has officially proclaimed September 7-13, 2025 as Direct Support Professional (DSP) Appreciation Week.

This week is dedicated to honoring, recognizing, and appreciating the incredible work of DSPs who provide essential care, support, and encouragement to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across our state. Their dedication goes beyond a job. It's a commitment to helping people live with greater independence, respect, and opportunity. DSPs often serve as trusted companions, advocates, and champions, making a profound difference in the daily lives of those they support.

As we celebrate this week, we encourage all stakeholders, families, and communities to join us in recognizing and deeply appreciating the skill, compassion, and heart that DSPs bring every day.
