so holds an insurance license. He is a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and is a member of and supports many service and fraternal organizations in the greater Monticello area. He is passionate about his calling and is devoted to the communities and the families he serves. Kathryn Springer, Randy's wife, assists families with many things including preneed funding, and she holds an insurance license for this purpose. Kathryn earned a Bachelors Degree in Management and Administration from Indiana University and a Masters Degree in Administration from the University of Notre Dame. Much of her time is spent side by side with Randy in the day to day operations, and she strives to ensure the comfort of the families they serve. James "Jim" E. Paschen

James E. Paschen, 84, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at his residence.

He was born on May 26, 1941 in Monticello on the homestead farm known as, Maple Knoll to the late Leslie Henry and Hazel Arlene (Van Meter) Paschen. James was married to Merilyn Bair from (1960 -1986). He then remarried Marilyn (Monte) Roach and she preceded him in death.

Jim was a graduate of Monticello High School and farmed his entire life. His farm had been in the family since 1906. Maple Knoll Farms was named White County Outstanding Homestead in 1976 several years after the devastating tornado. The farm was focused heavily on livestock since 1929 and started with Poland China breed hogs and evolved into raising Duroc, Hampshire and Yorkshire pigs and as a result he raised crossbred club pigs. He was very involved with White County 4-H and children - Brad, Mark & Suzann also showed hogs at the Indiana State Fair. Jim was also a master gardener of both tomatoes and gourds.

He was a long-time member of the Monticello Christian Church.

Surviving are his sons, Bradley (Cathy) Paschen of West Lafayette, Mark (De Anna) Paschen of Brookston; daughter, Suzann (Nick) Nixon of Davenport, FL; step children, Melanie (Jerry) Culp of Kalamazoo, MI, David Monte (Georgina) Roach of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Claire (Dave) Hastings, Elizabeth Paschen, Allie (Devin) Paschen, Zachary (Kelsey) Spille, Olivia, Alexa and Kailey Nixon; step grandchildren, Elizabeth Culp, Alexandra Roach, Mason Roach; and cousin, George (Kim) Loy of Monticello.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marilyn, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Blodgett and Patricia "Pat" Martin; and his grandson, Cale Paschen.

Visitation will be Friday, May 29, 2026 from 11:00 am until the time of memorial services celebrating Jim's life at 1:00 pm at Monticello Christian Church with Rev. Tanny Dawson-Snyder officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Sharon (Zarse) Faker, age 83, passed away on May 1, 2026 in Bloomington, Indiana.

Sharon was born on August 14, 1942, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Leonard C. and Audrey Zarse. She was a 1960 graduate of Chalmers High School. On December 26, 1964, Sharon married James (Jim) Faker in West Lafayette.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and card games. Sharon lived many years in Illinois. After retiring, Sharon moved to North Carolina and then back to Indiana.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and son James Todd Faker; sisters, Marlene Wallace, Karon Kelly and brother, Butch Zarse.

Sharon is survived by two beautiful grandchildren; Wyatt and Grace, and cherished family members and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Father Dan Duff as Celebrant on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello, Indiana.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at the church.

Burial to follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the church.

John Crowel

John H. Crowel, 89, of Monticello and formerly of Delphi, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.

He was born on July 5, 1936 in Logansport to the late Gerald and Letha (Lods) Crowel. On February 24, 1957 he married Marilyn Cauble at the Christian Church in Monticello. They were married for 69 years. She survives.

He was a 1954 graduate of Roosevelt High School and served in the National Guard. He was a life long farmer and enjoyed his horses. He was president of the Yeoman Telephone Company for many years and drove the Yeoman school bus. He loved his family and he was loved as well.

John was a member of Hickory Grove Church where he had been a Deacon, taught Sunday School and served in various other capacities.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by two sons, Ted (Becky) Crowel of Monticello, Tim Crowel of Delphi; daughter, Julie (Brent) O'Farrell of Delphi; grandchildren, Molly (Justin) Milcarek, Hannah (Grant) Losiewicz, Jessie O'Farrell, Peter (Eve) Crowel, Morgan (Jordan) Lorenzo, Madelyn (Noah) Abbott; great grandchildren, Ren and Luke Milcarek, Dane, Ellis, Calvin and Scarlett Losiewicz, Andrew, Elijah and Ivy Crowel.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Cowdin.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Hickory Grove Church with Adam Morris officiating..

Burial will follow in Yeoman Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hickory Grove Church OR Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Envelopes will be available at the church.

Jamie Lee Edwards, 36, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026 in Otterbein.

He was born on March 12, 1990 in New Albany to James L. Edwards and Billea (Craig) Wilson.

He was a 2008 graduate of Twin Lakes High School and worked at SAI in Lafayette. He liked the game Magic Cards, anything Pokemon and was an avid gamer. He had his own channel and made his own games. His gaming name was Graweru that he had used since he was a teenager. He still had every gaming system he ever owned. He cherished his family.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step mother, Christina Simpson; four siblings, Crystal Wilson of Rochester, Shawna Smith of Berea, KY, Tyler (Tori) Edwards of Monticello, Kailea Edwards of Logansport; nieces and nephews, Jeremiah Wilson, Charlotte Smiley, Elizabeth Mattingly Ezra Smith and Tripp Edwards.

Visitation will be Monday, May 11, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.

Donna Sue (Hendrix) Bernacki Lappellere, 61, of Dyer, IN passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at her residence.

She was born on October 14, 1964 in Greenville, KY to the late Wendell and Louise (Mitchell) Hendrix. On April 20, 2026 she married Daniel Lappellere, Jr. in Munster, IN. He survives.

She was a graduate of Muhlenberg Central High School in Powderly, KY and received an associate's degree from Purdue University Calumet. She worked for Bryce, Downey & Lenkov for almost 23 years in Chicago and Crown Point. She also managed her husband's rock bands.

Donna enjoyed RVing, fishing, boating, driving the back roads and computers. She was passionate about her family, friends and pets. She lived life on her terms.

In addition to her husband, Daniel, she is survived by son, Kyle Bernacki of Dyer; daughter, Emily E. Bernacki of Dyer; three sisters, Tabitha Hendrix of San Antonio, Mary Goldston of Jeffersonville, Karen Raney of Jeffersonville; five brothers, Danny Hendrix of Selmer, TN, Douglas Hendrix of Central City, KY, Jerry Hendrix of Central City, KY, Nate Hendrix of Dyer, IN and Wendell Hendrix of Belvedere, IL; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Jimmy and Robin Hendrix, niece, Talitha Karstens.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 2, 2026 from noon until the time of services at 2:00 pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Pastor Russ Alley officiating.

Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to a Humane Society of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Phyllis Hitner

Phyllis Hitner, 94, of Monticello and Battleground, passed away on April 23, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.

She was born on November 17, 1931 in Lafayette to the late Charles and Edna (Tesmer) Corns. On November 4, 1950 she married John Allen “Jack” Hitner. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1965.

Phyllis was a former member of the Monticello Christian Church serving as church secretary for a time. She was a member of the Past Bowlers of Monticello and a member of the American Legion since 1966. Phyllis was a 1949 graduate of Battle Ground High School. After graduation she worked at Sunshine Farms on Security Post in Virginia while Jack was in the service. She was also secretary at Battle Ground School Corporation. She worked at Chesebrough-Ponds, Millers Department Store as a bookkeeper, and as Monticello City Clerk Treasurer for two and a half terms, and then at Battle Ground Town Hall for thirteen years.

She dearly loved her grandsons and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with family. Phyllis loved her animals, Bert, Bandi, Mandy and Molly. Phyllis enjoyed her flowers, bird watching and mushroom hunting with her late husband, Jack and Lee and Dick Cronch.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa R. (Gary) Armstrong, husband; grandsons, Jonathan and Tyler Armstrong; great grandchildren, Kohen, Lauren and Pearl Armstrong.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by her son, John Craig Hitner; sister, Glenda Gerhart; brother, Mark Corns; her best friends of over 50 years, Lee and Dick Cronch. She, Lee, Dick and Jack spent a lot of time mushroom hunting and Jack was an avid fisherman.

Phyllis and Lisa were animal lovers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to Almost Home Humane Society or to Happy Tails.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Dr. James Elliott officiating. Casual dress is appreciated.
